A surprise was coming and it's darkness will soon;

Devour the light.

Author's POV

The doorbell pierced the dead silence, shattering her reverie. A woman in her late fifties with a hint of grey in her hair, swiftly rose from her armchair.

She hastily concealed the magazine, its glossy cover now crumpled in her grasp.

The face of one of the most successful businessman of the current time, stared back at her from the creased page of magazine.

But it wasn't because she was a secret admirer;

She'd been "redecorating" his face with a red pen.

Her eyes locked onto his picture, her red pen slicing through his handsome face like a dagger.

No, she didn't hate him.

She loathed him with a passion.

Her soul burned at the mere thought of his achieved success.

Yet, as she ruined his image, something caught her eye.

Despite the ruined face, his eyes seemed... peaceful. Serene.

Untroubled by the chaos she had always created for him on the every path of his life.

Her anger faltered. How could he remain, so unruffled,

So calm;

Even after she had devoted her entire life in destroying him?

Anamika opened the door, her face a masterful mask of innocence. But beneath the surface, a sinister intent lurked.

She was taken aback to find her daughter-in-law, Aadrika, standing on her doorstep for the very first time.

"Aadrika, dear! What brings you here?" Anamika asked, her voice dripping with sugary sweetness.

Aadrika's eyes sparkled, not cognizant about the evilness lurking beneath Anamika's warm demeanor. "I thought we could catch up."

As She entered, Anamika's expression faltered for a split second, revealing a glimpse of her true nature.

Anamika's gaze turned cold when she took the strong observation of her daughter in law's face as it was shining with a glow of pure happiness.

"How can she be so happy with Arjun who is just so cold and dead, Can't she see the emptiness he brings?"

Anamika wondered, her mind recoiling in disgust.

Anamika's disdain deepened as she pondered that Arjun's cold, dead nature should have left Aadrika's eyes brimming with tears;

Not shining like stars.

However, she collected her inner thoughts and motioned Aadrika to sit down but her eyes went widen when she noticed the magazine displaced on the table.

In an instant she picked it up and let out a deep sigh and shakily exclaimed with a light laugh.

"Nothing it's just my go-to-magazine on beauty tips for aging skin, you know."

Aadrika's lips parted slightly in astonishment, forming a small "O" and then a whisper of smile danced on her lips.

As Anamika nestled the magazine away and was about to shut the drawer, a small almost imperceptible code on the magazine's last page caught Aadrika's attention.

Subsequently, she recalled that strange day when she barged into her husband's home's office.
