it all started because of Rouge

Chapter 2

[POV Sonic]

My friends and I had just finished eating some chili dogs. We were joking and laughing when suddenly, a bright emerald flash appeared at the other side of the room. All of us turned our heads toward the light. I rolled my eyes as I heard—

“--CONTROL!!!”

Yeah, I figured. It was Shadow, teleporting with the Chaos Emerald. He appeared right after the flash, with Rouge beside him. They spotted us and walked over.

Rouge: “Hey there, blue~ Hey, everyone! Sorry for the sudden visit,” Rouge greeted cheerfully. I glanced over at Shadow, who had already crossed his arms and was leaning against the nearest wall, typical Shadow. Then I looked back at Rouge.

Knuckles: “Ugh, you again. Hi, I guess,” Knuckles sighed, sounding annoyed, clearly expecting some teasing from Rouge.

Tails: “Hi, Rouge!” Tails responded brightly.

Amy: “Hey.” Amy replied casually.

“Hey, Rouge. So, how’d you two get here? No missions from G.U.N. today?” I asked, curious.

Rouge: “Oh, the commander gave us a break, so we’re free until we get called back. Right, hun~?” Rouge nudged Shadow with her elbow. I heard him growl.

“Hey Shadz, you seem grumpier than usual today.” I said, leaning back on the sofa.

Shadow: “Shut it, faker...” he grumbled, closing his eyes again. Then he gave me this long, irritated stare before shutting them once more.

“Oh, you’re as charming as always.” I rolled my eyes, but then a mischievous idea popped into my head.

“Hey, Shadow. You know there are two things in the world that are impossible, right? Wanna guess what they are?”

Shadow cracked one eye open. “What, Faker?”

I grinned. “First, finding Big the Cat when he’s not fishing. Second, seeing you go five minutes without growling.”

I burst into laughter, nearly doubling over on the sofa. Shadow shot me a death glare, clearly not amused.

Shadow: “You know what’s even more impossible, Faker? Me not punching you in the face right now!”

Still laughing, I quickly started thinking about how to dodge the inevitable punch as he took a step toward me.

Rouge: “Hey, before you two start a brawl, how about we go on a picnic instead?” Rouge suggested, cutting in.

Amy: “Oh, that’s a great idea! Come on, guys, let’s go outside and have some fun instead of just hanging around here!” Amy chimed in enthusiastically. Knuckles gave a small nod, and Tails looked eager.

Tails: “Yes! It’s been forever since we had a picnic!” he said excitedly.

I thought for a moment and then nodded.

Sonic: “Alright, Tails, you and Knuckles can grab the blankets and stuff, and I’ll go pick up some snacks and drinks with Amy.”

I got up, ready to head out, but before Amy could answer, Rouge interrupted.

Rouge: “Actually, Blue, why don’t you go with Shadow instead? I need to have a little chat with Amy.”

Rouge glanced meaningfully at Amy, who nodded awkwardly, looking a bit confused. I squinted suspiciously at Rouge, then looked over at Shadow.

“Do you really think he is going to agree to that?” I asked, glancing at Shadow.

Rouge just grinned. “Oh, trust me, he’ll go with you, Blue.”

She gave me a playful smile, then turned to Shadow with that dangerous gleam in her eyes.

Rouge: “Remember what I told you earlier, hun…?” Shadow remained where he was, arms still crossed, leaning against the wall, eyes shut.

Rouge: “Hmph, fine… Hey, Blue!!! Did you know that Shad—”

Rouge suddenly turned to me, looking way too excited. Her eyes practically sparkled. Shadow’s eyes shot open in panic, and before I knew it, he was sprinting toward Rouge, yelling—

Shadow: “Wait!!! Rouge!!!”

Shadow tried to stop her, but Rouge casually said—

Rouge: “If you hit me, I’m telling everyone, right here, right now.”

She said it in a calm but threatening tone. Shadow growled in frustration, crossing his arms again with a scowl. Rouge gave him a wicked grin, grabbed his arm, and shoved him toward me. Shadow lost his balance and crashed into me, sending us both sprawling onto the floor. The entire room went silent as everyone stared.

[POV Rouge]

I was stunned by what just happened. Part of me wanted to scream like a fangirl, but I managed to keep my cool. There they were—Sonic lying flat on his back with Shadow on top of him.

Quietly, I pulled out my phone and snapped a picture before anyone could notice. I slipped the phone back in my pocket and walked over, pretending to be concerned.

“Oh no, I’m so sorry! Are you guys alright?” I asked innocently.

Shadow scrambled to his feet after a few moments, glaring daggers at me. But I could see the faint blush creeping up his face as he tried to hide it.

“Well, I guess I’ll be going now! Bye, hun~!” I smirked at Shadow and grabbed Amy by the arm, dragging her out of Tails' lab before Shadow could strangle me.
