Chapter 1

-No POV-

On a bright morning in Green Hill Zone, Sonic the sapphire-blue hedgehog and his team were hanging out in Tails' lab, just relaxing before Eggman—his notorious enemy—would inevitably launch another attack later that day.

Knuckles: "Ugh, I'm so bored! Why hasn't Eggman caused any trouble or attacked yet?!"
The red echidna grumbled, nearly frustrated as he flopped onto the couch.

Sonic: "Maybe EggHead is feeling lazy, or he's off on vacation, so no attacks today."
Sonic replied casually to Knuckles' complaint, clearly unfazed.

Suddenly, the door burst open.

Amy: "Hey guys! I brought chili dogs for everyone!"
Amy, the pink hedgehog, shouted as she popped in, carrying a plate piled high with chili dogs. Sonic's eyes lit up as he rushed over, snatching one right away.

Sonic: "Thanks, Amy!"
He grinned widely, beaming at her. Amy chuckled at Sonic's excitement.

Knuckles finally peeled himself off the couch, walking over to grab his share of the food before plopping back down in his spot.

Sonic glanced over at Tails, his two-tailed fox buddy, who was completely absorbed in tinkering with his latest invention. Sonic walked over with a chili dog in hand, offering it to him.

Sonic: "Tails, don't you want one? You'll regret it if you don’t!"
He teased, holding the chili dog right under Tails' nose.

Tails: "Oh, thanks, Sonic!"
Tails grinned and paused his work, happily accepting the food.

Sonic headed back to the couch, sitting next to Knuckles, and in one swift motion, devoured his chili dog. If there were ever a chili dog eating contest, Sonic would definitely win, no question!

Amy joined them on the couch, sitting beside Sonic as she enjoyed her chili dog. Meanwhile, Tails settled on a smaller couch, munching away. The four of them ate together, laughing, joking, and swapping random stories, their laughter filling the lab.

No POV -

In a secret facility where the G.U.N. headquarters was located, an ebony hedgehog, one of the Mobians working for G.U.N., was sitting at his desk in the office. He was going through some files while waiting for his next mission from the Commander, or rather, the Head of G.U.N.

Suddenly, the door to Shadow's office swung open, and in walked a white bat—his partner-in-crime, or rather, his mission partner, Rouge the Bat.

Shadow glanced at Rouge briefly before returning to his work. Rouge strutted over to his desk, placing her hands on her hips as she stood in front of him.

Rouge: "Hey, handsome~"
She teased with a playful smirk. Shadow rolled his eyes, already exasperated.

Shadow: "Don't bother me."
He replied flatly, continuing to work. Rouge’s smile quickly shifted into a pout.

Rouge: "You're so cruel, you know? And here I am bringing good news!"
She huffed, clearly not impressed with his attitude.

Shadow: "What news?"
He asked, still not looking up from his files.

Rouge: "I was just called to the Commander’s office, and guess what? We’re on leave! No missions until further notice, because apparently, there’s no serious trouble lately. We finally have some time off!"
She nearly squealed with excitement, already thinking about how she could spend her vacation teasing a certain red echidna she liked.

Shadow: "Hm... thanks for the news."
He said, as unemotional as ever. He casually closed the files and pushed them aside. Grabbing his coffee cup, he leaned back in his chair and took a long, relaxed sip until the cup was empty.

Rouge: "Oh, come on, hun. We’ve got time off, and we should make the most of it before they drag us back into missions! Let’s go visit the others!"
She chirped, snatching the cup from his hand and placing it on the desk before trying to pull Shadow out of his chair. He let out a heavy sigh.

Shadow: "I don’t want to."

He crossed his arms stubbornly. Rouge narrowed her eyes, scheming.

Rouge: "Hmm... if you don’t come, I’ll replace your bed sheets with Hello Kitty ones! Or..."
She paused, her eyes gleaming mischievously, while Shadow’s expression remained deadpan, already planning to switch the sheets back if she did.

Rouge: "... I’ll tell a certain blue hedgehog your little secret~."
She finished with an evil grin. Shadow’s eyes widened in horror, his face turning a deep red. He rubbed his face roughly, growling in frustration. There was no way he could let Rouge spill that secret to his blue rival, the only secret that Rouge knew... and he dreaded.

Shadow: "Ugh, fine! But don’t you dare actually do it!"
He snarled, his ruby eyes shooting a deadly glare at Rouge, who looked way too pleased with herself.

Rouge: "Hehe, good boy. Now, take us to where they are! They’re probably hanging out at Tails’ lab. Let’s go!"
She chirped happily. Shadow let out another resigned sigh and pulled out his Chaos Emerald.

Shadow placed a hand on Rouge’s shoulder.

Shadow: "CHAOS CONTROL!!!"

With a flash of emerald light, they teleported to their destination.
