Abhira stepped into the washroom, her heart heavy, as she reached for the shower knob. The cold water began to cascade down her heated body, sending a sharp chill through her skin. She stood under the stream, eyes closed, hoping it would numb the pain swirling inside her. But it wasn't the cold water that made her tremble-it was the voices that haunted her mind, voices that had followed her since that night.
"Abhira kabhi maa nahi ban sakti."
The words echoed through the small space, cutting deep into her chest. Her breath hitched.
"Abhira ke haathon mein mere bete Armaan ka naam kabhi nahi dikhayenge jayega."
Her hand pressed against the cool tiles for support, but nothing could hold her steady against the weight of those taunts.
"Yeh shrap hai mera ki tum dono ki shaadi kabhi safal nahi hogi."
The curse echoed, a reminder of how her love, her marriage, her life with Armaan was doomed, poisoned by words she had no control over.
"Khabardar joh meri bahu ke paas bhi aayi tum."
Abhira's heart constricted painfully as she recalled Vidya's harsh voice, the woman she had once adored like a mother. Vidya, who she had loved and cared for like her own, had cruelly pushed her away. Why? Just because she couldn't be a mother. A truth she had no power to change.
Tears welled up in her eyes, merging with the water streaming down her face. Every memory of that birthday celebration replayed in her mind, each moment wounding her spirit, each taunt reminding her of her worthlessness in their eyes.
Then came Armaan's words, slicing through her heart like a blade.
"Meri life tumhara project nahi hai, Abhira. Tumhe use theek karne mein lag jati ho."
She squeezed her eyes shut as her husband's frustration washed over her again.
"Tum kya chahti ho ki meri maa jo abhi tak mujhse theek se baat bhi nahi karti, vo meri shakal bhi na dekhe."
Armaan had said those words in anger, but they had stayed with her. Did he truly believe she was a burden? A reason for his mother's indifference?
"Yeh office hai Abhira, yahan achi vakeel banne ki koshish karo, achi biwi nahi."
His coldness, his dismissals, the way he had distanced himself from her... it all came crashing back. The past three months of their marriage had been nothing but pain. She had tried, she had poured her heart into being the best wife, the best partner she could be. But Armaan had walked out on her again and again.
Every time she reached out, he turned away.
Every time she tried to bring them closer, he shut her out.
He grew angry at the smallest of things, treating her like an inconvenience, like she didn't matter-whether in their office or at the Poddar Mansion. She felt insignificant. Invisible.
The cold water continued to pour over her, but it couldn't wash away the feeling of defeat that clung to her. She was broken, shattered into pieces, and no amount of trying could fix what was crumbling between her and Armaan.
And then, the memory of Vidya's birthday celbration struck her- what the doctor had told them about Ruhi.
Ruhi was expecting.
The joy that erupted in the family, the celebrations that followed-it was overwhelming. Everyone was so happy, so full of life. But she... she wasn't allowed to be part of it. Vidya had pushed her away, treating her like a bad omen to Ruhi and her unborn child. As if her very presence could harm them.
