Alpha Fredrick was waiting on the steps for his son and family. Having his wife Julie pass over five years ago he loved being able to have them so close. Kyle was his only son and he was grateful to be included with his family. He knew Kyle would be bringing the oldest children of his ten pups. Alex, Lily-Ana, Sean and David. He saw more of those four than the other six and for good reason.
While Kyle and the boys treated him as Alpha first, Lily Mae did not. She bounded from her father's pick up and gave me a huge hug. I smiled at her as we all went inside.
"I'm afraid this isn't a social call. I recieved a call from the Alphas of the Northan Packs. They each had a member of their pack challenge them. When they lost they went rogue and banded together. Alpha Ross, Alpha Damian and Alpha Mathias all contacted me. They believe these rouges are looking for Sanctuary within our pack."
Dad looked at us all, "Report your findings to the Alpha." Alex was the only one to stay quiet, listening to our report as close as the Alpha. "They said it wouldn't take long, that these wolves are dangerous and relentless. I want you to double border patrol, triple it on livestock, I'll be back shortly." Grandfather stepped out of the room, along with our father. Each making a very important phone call with one thought in mind-Safety. Much of our pack had young ones, under the age of five. Large family but still vulnerable. The Pack had seven ranches, each one with multiple families to work the land. While we at the Stone ranch deal with livestock like three others, one doesn't all the farming while the other two create and supply our materialistic needs. I mean, we're not cut off from society, we just don't like to interact with those outside of our community if we don't have to.
Father came back first, "Everyone has been notified. Alex and Sean you take the first shift. Lily Mae you and David take the second. We will all protect what we have." At the end of Dads words our grandfather came back in. "For peace and at their requests, the other Alphas are on their way. They will stay here, within the pack house with me." My dad growled, uncomfortable with strangers in the pack house. Alpha Fredrick raised his hand, " they will not be here on vacation. They have agreed to follow our way of the wolf and work on what is needed. They shall be here in two days time." My father's growl died but the distain in his voice was there when he spoke. "How long until they leave?" "When the problems taken care of. Have you notified the other six ranches?" Dad nodded and turned to us. "I just realized we might have to pull more of your brothers to help the other ranches. The Douglas family and Streets only have two boys who have found there wolves each. While the Fallons only have Christine and Henry. They are going to need our help and support to protect the livestock we have." Alpha Fredrick nodded, "with Lily Mae, you have six children with their wolves." Dad nodded, "Yes, Gabriel, Ethan, Dylan and off course Sue Ann are not old enough yet. I can keep four at our ranch and we can rotate with the others." Grandpa nodded, "I need all available wolves including you Kyle." Dad nodded, "Yes of course. I was going to assist on the pack border, I feel as though that's the most risk. I am asking that Mary be left out of rotation however. With the younger pups I don't want to leave them alone." "Of course. Now please head to the Douglas, Streets and Fallons to dispatch our plan. I'll inform the other families.
Our truck ride to the Douglas and Streets was short and silent. Each one of us realizing it has been a long time since we've dealt with an issue on pack lands. We pulled up to the drive, "Cattle Cove ranch" hung above it, the iron sign waving in the wind. When we pulled in they were outside, Dad immediately headed to the head of the family. The Street brothers, Tucker and Vance stood against an old pickup with the hood opened. While the Douglas Twins, James and Levi were working on the interior. James had his hands in the dash, trying to figure out what wire went where. Alex nudged me and we walked over. Sean and and David went looking for the Streets little Sisters, Kathleen and Jade. We all had a feeling their wolves had made a claim on the girls. Identifying them as mates. Tucker glanced up as Alex and I. My face bled into a blush.
Before I got my Wolf, Tucker and I dated for four years. His dark curly hair fell down by his chin, dark grey eyes pierced my blue ones. His plaid shirt was open, slowing full view of his chiseled chest. His wolf rumbled. I gave him a hug, allowing myself to feel the familiar comforting sensation of my head against his sweaty chest for a moment.
We had been great together, always doing the simple things that made us both happy. Crawfishing in the creek, taking our horses out together, and watching the night sky on a blanket in the pastor. I had thought he was my mate, the one made for me. But the day I got my wolf she rejected the idea. After that I could no longer call forth the butterflies I once had.
I pulled away and kissed him on his cheek. Vance smirked, "I still think your wolf's blind Lily Mae. Can't believe she didn't agree with Ol' Tuck here." I frowned, " Momma said you can't force it Vance. Ain't no point in trying to do it. I'm just grateful that when it was all said and done Tucker didn't hold it against me." Alex nodded, glaring at Vance while me and Tucker shuffled our feet. Tucker nodded, "We weren't written in the stars as mates, We were written as friends." Vance just rolled his eyes. Levi got out from under the truck, wiping his hands on an old orange grease rag. "So what's all this about?"
