I swallowed hard, my pulse quickening under his intense gaze. "Alexander," I whispered, the name tasting foreign yet dangerously addictive on my lips.

His hand traced a slow, deliberate path along my spine, making it impossible to steady my breath. "That's better," he murmured, his voice thick with satisfaction, each word wrapping around me like a velvet chain.

I should have pulled away, but instead, I leaned in, every nerve in my body betraying the warning in my mind.

"You're playing a dangerous game, Lila," he said, his fingers still resting at the small of my back, the unspoken tension between us thicker than ever.

"I'm not the one breaking the rules, sir," I replied, my voice barely a whisper. It was bold-too bold, perhaps-but I couldn't stop the words from slipping out.

His eyes darkened, a predatory gleam flickering beneath his composed exterior. "Careful," he warned, his grip tightening ever so slightly, "you forget who's in charge here."

"I haven't forgotten." The words trembled on my lips, but I stood my ground, refusing to back down from the dangerous line we were both toeing.
