LILA'S POV
It was a quiet Sunday afternoon, and I was curled up in my bedroom, lost in the pages of a new book I bought yesterday.
My headphones were on, drowning the world out with country music.
Today was blissfully free of work, and I welcomed the chance to unwind.
Still, my thoughts kept wandering back to him—Alexander Devereaux.
The way his body felt pressed against mine, the heat of his hand caressing my legs.
I groaned, shaking my head to dispel the memory.
"Get a grip, Lila," I muttered, refocusing on the book. But no matter how hard I tried, the image of him refused to leave my mind.
Suddenly, my phone rang, the music cutting off as the screen lit up. I glanced at the name—Scarlett!
A grin spread across my face as I answered the call.
"Scarletttttt! I missed youuu!" I squealed into the phone, already excited.
"Hi, girlfriend! Miss you too!" her voice chimed back with that infectious energy.
"What's up?" I asked, sitting up on my bed.
"I just wanted to inform you that I'm in the city right now," she said, sounding all too casual.
"Shut up! Really? Here in LA?" I nearly jumped off the bed.
"Yes! I was hoping we could meet up!" she said, laughter in her voice.
"Of course! Text me where, and I'll get ready and head over," I replied, already planning my outfit in my head.
"Okay! See you soon. Bye!"
"Bye!" I hung up, my heart doing a little happy dance.
My best friend, in the city, to see me! I looked over at Misty, my cat, who was lounging lazily in her bed in the corner of the room.
"Misty, Scarlett's here!" I said excitedly, though Misty barely lifted her head to acknowledge me.
Instead, she let out a half-hearted meow and promptly went back to sleep.
I chuckled and shook my head.
Oh Misty, what am I going to do with you.
A surge of excitement coursed through me.
It had been ages since I'd seen Scarlett, and the thought of catching up with my best friend was just what I needed to distract myself from the chaotic whirlwind that had become my life over the past few weeks.
I tossed my book onto the bedside table and jumped up from my cozy spot on the bed.
"Time to get ready!" I exclaimed, already rifling through my closet for something that would impress.
I settled on a flowy sundress that hugged my curves just right—perfect for a casual outing with my best friend.
After a quick shower, I styled my hair into loose waves, letting it fall effortlessly around my shoulders. A swipe of lip gloss and I was good to go.
Glancing at the clock, I noticed I had about thirty minutes before Scarlett's arrival.
"Let's see if I can whip up something quick," I muttered, heading to the kitchen.
I opened the fridge and spotted some fresh fruit, grabbing strawberries and blueberries along with a carton of yogurt.
As I mixed everything together in a bowl, my mind wandered back to Alexander.
