The Transformation teacher came in.

"Hello, my dear students. Today we will practice fall transformation. But before, all of you should turn in their animal form," she said, and turned into her animal form too.

Everybody did it. A plenty of animals were seen. Leiah turned into a doberman pincher. Only Gunnar stood there paralyzed.

"Hey, you there? Is something wrong?" Teacher asked him, "can't you shift?"

*Gunnar's PoV*

As I heard teacher's command, I couldn't respond. How am I supposed to turn into a narwhal right here? Why am I even supposed to do so? What am I doing here?

I heard teacher started talking. Yes, I couldn't shift.

"I'm an aq-quatic shifter..." I said almost silently.

"Oh, I see," she answered, "let me follow you to the pool, then."

I carefully got in. But what am I supposed to do next?

*Leiah's PoV*

I heard a command, and immediately shifted into a dog. I practiced since childhood, so it was a piece of cake for me.

Two guys who were betting on my animal form earlier this day got surprised, and then disappointed. Of course, nobody likes to lose a bet. Both of them "lost" this time.

I saw Gunnar struggle. He stood there, not knowing what to do. I became worried. May he there is a way how to help him?

I decided to give him a telepathetical signal (yes, for ones who doesn't know, shifters can communicate through telepathy while at least one of them is in animal form).

"Remember your animal form!" I shouted through telepathy.

Fortunately, he heard me. I saw him trying really hard but couldn't.

Teacher sighed and thought what to do. She opened a window to get some fresh air and get some ideas. Suddenly, a cry of some kind of aquatic animal was heard. It was really loud, almost deafening. Everybody closed their ears, so nobody got hurt. Everyone looked in the window at the same moment. When they turned back, they saw a narwhal in front of them. And yes, that was Gunnar.

Then, everybody finally practiced fall shifting, although a deafening cry left a trace of confusion on them.

They also had Math and History, and then the classes finished.

*Gunnar's PoV*

I still had a lump in my throat. I didn't even notice how I changed my form. Am I so bound to my instincts?

Instincts. I hate this word. This thing demolishes and destroyes everything around. And what was the worst thing- instincts killed my father.

And secondary, I just looked embarrassing in the times of the class.  I'm just surprised not a single classmate started bullying me (but that's probably because I'm so plain to them they forgot me like I didn't even exist).

I stood in the hallway quietly. I didn't even want to read. Thinking was the only thing I was capable to do right now.

*Leiah's PoV*

I took my phone out. I saw a plenty of threatening messages from my aunt. Oh no... what if she will find me? Even if I run many miles far away from her place, she will search for me. But should I tell somebody?

It won't be safe. What if they will send me back already? I don't want to return to bland food, everyday insulting and no freedom.

I also went deep in my thoughts. I should manage to stay safe somehow, no matter what. And if I need to run away, I should prepare somehow.

The chances of her findung me in the school were still low, especially in the school that was located in the woods and was marked as an enterprice building (as I heard other shifters say).

Suddenly, one of their classmates they remembered earlier stepped to them.

"My dear new classmates," she said in a calm voice, "follow me."

Me and Gunnar silently went.

Author's note: The deafening sound was another narwhal's cry. It's the official fact their cries are so high somebody can go deaf, but I didn't want to hurt my characters so yeah.
I hope you enjoyed this chapter. See you on the next one!
