The Same Day ,
The sun peeked through the curtains, casting a warm glow in Gauri's room. She lay in her bed, finally getting some peace after the storm of emotions she had gone through the night before. The thoughts of the unexpected marriage meeting had drained her, but she had managed to fall asleep after hours of turmoil.
Just as she turned to her side, trying to get a few more minutes of rest, the door burst open. It was her mother, Raagini, looking as determined as ever.
Raagini : Gauri! Utho! It's already late. You don't have all day to sleep. Get up and get ready.
(Gauri! Wake up! It's already late. You don't have all day to sleep. Get up and get ready.)
Gauri groaned as well as mumbling a reply to her mother and pulled the blanket over her head, unwilling to face the day.
Gauri : Maa, just five more minutes.
Raagini walked over to the bed and yanked the blanket off her daughter.
Raagini : Koyi Five minutes nahi milega tujhe!!! Aaj kya hai pata hai nah!! Aaj Koyi drama nahi chahiye mujhe ladke waalon ke saamne! Sun rahi hai Naah tuu!!
(No more five minutes, Gauri. You know what today is. We can't afford any drama in front of the boy's family. Do you hear me?)
Hearing the frustration in her mother's voice, Gauri sat up reluctantly. Her face showed the exhaustion and frustration of someone being pushed into something they didn't want.
Gauri (calmly): Maaa mein koyi tamasha nahi karungi! Agar mujhpe bharosa nahi hai toh apne parvarish par bharosa kijiye!!
(Maa, I won't create any drama. Can't you at least trust your own upbringing if you can't trust me?)
Raagini paused, caught off guard by her daughter's words. For a moment, her strict demeanor softened, but only slightly.
Raagini: Mujhe nahi pata tum kya soch rahi ho, lekin jo bhi hai, samajhdari se kaam lena. Aaj sirf humari izzat ka sawal hai.Gauri, it's not about trust. Aaj ka din bahut important hai. Tumhare liye bhi aur hamare liye bhi.
(I don't know what you are thinking but actually wisely!! Today's it's on our family respect!! Gauri it's not about trust!! Today is important, For you as well for us!)
Gauri sighed and nodded, deciding not to argue further.
Gauri: Fine. I'll behave. You don't have to worry.
Satisfied with her daughter's response, Raagini turned towards the door but stopped to glance back.
Raagini: And Jaldi kar woh log baas aate hi honge!!
( And hurry up. The guests will be here soon.)
As Raagini left, Akshara entered the room carrying a neatly folded outfit for Gauri. Her smile was warm and reassuring, a stark contrast to Raagini's sternness.
Akshara : Good morning, sleepyhead! Laagta hai maa se subha subha achi kaasi mil rahi hai!!
(Good Morning Sleepyhead!! Looks like maa already gave you an earful.)
Gauri rolled her eyes and flopped back onto her pillow.
Gauri: Don't remind me, bhabhi. Main already iss din ka burden feel kar rahi hoon.
(Don't remind me bhabhi. I'm already dreading the day.)
Akshara sat on the edge of the bed and placed the outfit next to Gauri.
