The sky over Noctis Spire remained heavy with clouds, a reflection of the mood within its walls as preparations for Hyunjin's departure to the Golden Palace were well underway. The dark castle bustled with activity—servants hurried through the stone corridors, their arms full of supplies and clothing, while stable hands readied the horses and royal carriage in the courtyard. There was an air of urgency about the place, though to Hyunjin, it all felt detached, like he was watching it happen from a distance.

He sat in his chambers, his wings drying after the bath the maids had meticulously prepared for him. The smell of lavender still clung to his skin, and though his appearance was pristine, Hyunjin's mind was far from settled. The thought of seeing Felix again brought him a sense of relief—an escape from the cold confines of Noctis Spire—but the conversation with Jaebum in the throne room earlier lingered in his mind, casting a shadow over his excitement.

Hyunjin's gaze fell on the mirror across the room, where his reflection stared back at him—dressed in fine robes of deep purple and black, the colors of the Hwang Kingdom, his wings folded neatly behind him. The black feathers shimmered faintly in the dim light, a reminder of the power that coursed through him, the magic that had shaped his destiny from the moment he was born. For many, the sight of such wings would be awe-inspiring, but to Hyunjin, they sometimes felt more like chains.

There was a soft knock on the door, pulling him from his thoughts.

"Come in," Hyunjin called, his voice lacking its usual energy.

The door creaked open, and Chan entered, his presence as steady and reliable as always. His eyes quickly scanned the room, as if instinctively checking for danger, even though they were deep within the heart of Noctis Spire. It was a habit he'd never broken.

"Ready to leave this gloomy place?" Chan asked, though there was a trace of seriousness behind his usual light tone.

Hyunjin sighed, standing from his seat. "More than you can imagine."

Chan leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed. "I spoke with the stable hands. They've prepared the finest horses for the carriage. They'll get us to the Golden Palace by tomorrow morning."

Hyunjin nodded absentmindedly, his thoughts already drifting to the golden halls of Felix's home. The Lee Kingdom was nothing like Hwang—where Noctis Spire was dark and foreboding, the Golden Palace was warm and open, bathed in sunlight and lined with marble that gleamed beneath the bright skies. Felix had often joked that he lived in a palace of light, while Hyunjin was trapped in a tower of shadows.

Just thinking about it made Hyunjin long to be there already.

"You'll be free of duties for a few days," Chan added, eyeing him carefully. "No council meetings, no judgments. Just a visit with an old friend."

Hyunjin's smile was small but genuine. "It's like a dream."

Before Chan could respond, the door creaked open again, and Mrs. Willow stepped in, her usual rosy demeanor still intact despite the whirlwind of activity around the castle.
