Long ago, the gods blessed four noble families with power unlike any other. These families, chosen to rule the vast and diverse lands of the world, were given wings—a gift that marked them as the only wielders of magic. These wings were more than just symbols of their authority; they were the source of their magic, connecting the royal families directly to the gods themselves. Each family ruled over a distinct kingdom, and while their powers were different, they were bound by a long-standing alliance, formed to ensure peace and stability. The kingdoms were known as Hwang, Lee, Yang, and Han, each with a rich history of power and unity.

The Hwang Kingdom, ruled by Hyunjin's family, was the most powerful of the four. Known for their black wings, as dark as the night sky, the Hwang family wielded magic that allowed them to control shadows and the wind. Their seat of power, Noctis Spire, stood tall and intimidating, its black stone towers seemingly carved from the very night. The Hwang family's influence extended far and wide, and they were often looked to as the leaders among the four kingdoms.

At the head of the Hwang Kingdom was King Hwang, Hyunjin's father, a ruler whose power was unmatched. His wings were the largest of any ruler in recent memory, and his magic was both feared and revered. Under his reign, the Hwang Kingdom had flourished, expanding its influence and securing its position as the most dominant force among the four realms. However, despite the kingdom's strength, internal tensions plagued the royal family.

King Hwang had two sons. The eldest, Jaebum, was born without wings, a misfortune that shocked the kingdom. As the firstborn, Jaebum was expected to inherit the throne, but his lack of wings meant he had no magic—no claim to the divine power that had defined the Hwang dynasty for centuries. Despite being a skilled and disciplined leader, Jaebum's position was overshadowed by his younger brother, Hyunjin, who was born with magnificent wings, even larger and more powerful than their father's. This rift between the brothers had only grown over time, with Jaebum harboring deep resentment toward Hyunjin, who never desired the throne but was bound by his birthright.
