Naiaris POV

The sun hung low in the sky, casting a warm golden hue over the backyard, where I found myself surrounded by friends, laughter, and the delicious smell of barbecued burgers. It was the perfect summer evening, filled with that carefree energy that only comes from knowing graduation is just around the corner.

Me and miani have been together for 4 months now and it's been the best 4 months of my life. My feelings and thoughts about genesis faded as I was with her. It's not that i don't care about her but miani is more for me.

My baby- hey babe what's the plan for today ?

We could go to the park and relax for a date- naiari

My baby- okay ml , sounds like a plan. Let's meet in 30 mins

Okay pretty - naiari

I had already showered so I threw on some comfortable jean shorts with a cropped tank top and some crocs. It was extremely hot outside so I didn't want to do too much. I put my hair in a bun and put some lip gloss on and I headed to the store for some snacks. I grabbed my favorite snacks and I headed to the park. When I arrived I went to our usual spot and spread the blanket out, then I sat and scanned the crowd. my heart skipped a beat when I spotted Miani. Her dark curls danced in the breeze, and my face lit up when I saw her. Every day felt like an adventure. I still couldn't believe how natural it was to be with her, as if we'd always been meant to be.

She walked over to me and kissed my lips , I smiled hard and couldn't resist the taste of her.

"Hey,!" Miani admired me in ways i couldn't imagine

"Hey baby" I scooted over so she could sit next to me. We chatted about random things and the topic of our senior trip came up. I got excited and suggested we go somewhere crazy like California for a week.

A flutter of excitement raced through her . "I love that idea! We could go to the beach and surf, build sandcastles, and watch the sunset together."

I was misled at her excitement as she leaned in closer, lowering her voice. "And maybe have some midnight swims? Just us under the stars?" I felt her lips on my neck and I bit my lip.

My breath caught in my throat. " Fuck that sounds perfect."

As the night wore on, we listened to music and laughter filled the air. I noticed she was texting alot but I didn't take any offense nor did I say anything. All I could focus on was how the moment felt electric, charged with an unspoken connection. It was getting late and I knew we had to go home. Miani helped me clean up and she grabbed my chin and leaned in kissing me like she had never tasted me before. My heart raced of course. She told me to text her when i got home and i nodded, i walked home and got in the house headed up to my room. I started to undress and I grabbed my stuff for my shower.

After I took a shower and got in my pajamas I settled in my bed and ate the dinner my mother had made while I was gone. I texted her that i made it home and she liked my message and said she was going to go to bed.

I made it home love- naiari

My baby- Okay baby good, i'm so tired im going to go to bed

My love.. Before you do, I really love you a lot. - naiari

My baby- i love you more beautiful

I smiled and cuddled in my bed as I drifted to sleep thinking and dreaming of her.

We had spent most of the summer together and it was hinting closer to school. One evening we were sitting on a man's porch and after a long day we watched the sunset. The hues of pink and orange lathered the moment with love.

"Miani, I really love you," I said, the words spilling out effortlessly.

She smiled brightly, taking my hand. "I love you too. This summer has been amazing.

"Right? I can't wait for our trip. It'll be perfect."

"Just us," she echoed, her eyes sparkling

Everything was perfect. At least that's what I thought. I went home that night, my heart full of her and eyes dilated from just the thought of her. I sat on my bed receiving a text message. I opened it and It was a screenshot of a picture of Miani laughing, her arm draped around another boy, a smug grin on his face.

My heart sank. "No, no, no..." I scrolled through the messages, my stomach twisting in knots.

I didn't think—I just called Miani. The ringing felt like an eternity. Finally, she answered, her voice bright and cheerful.

"Hey! What's up Baby ?"

"Who is he?" My voice was sharper than I intended, a crack in my voice.

"What are you talking about?"

"The boy in these screenshots. WHO IS HE?"

Silence fell, heavy and suffocating. "Naiari.. I.. I can explain"

"Explain what? That you were all over him?" Anger bubbled up inside me, frustration mixing with betrayal. "How could you do this to me?"

"I wasn't cheating! I swear it was just a friend—"

"Just a friend? You look real fucking cozy!" My heart raced as I shouted the words.

"Please, just listen—"

"I thought you were different! I should've fucking known.. All the times you were texting like your life depended on it." Tears stung my eyes.

"I know how you feel about me! This was a misunderstanding!" Her voice grew frantic.

"Maybe I don't know how you feel," I shot back, my heart pounding. "Because right now, all I see is fucking betrayal."

"I swear, it was nothing! I would never do that to you!"

"Then why didn't you tell me? If it's nothing.. Why did you feel the need to hide it? " I felt my chest tighten.

"Please, don't do this!"

" you wore his jacket on our date.." my voice cracking in every sentence

" if it's between me and him you can choose him.. I'm not a second option when your first one goes wrong. ," I said, my voice trembling and my heart broke into pieces.

"No! Don't say that!"

"I mean it... we are done.. "I broke down crying as I hung up the phone. I didn't know what to do.. I just stared at my phone screen, despair washed over me. Without thinking, I opened a new message to Genesis. The name felt foreign now, but I needed to reach out. I didn't have anybody else. I typed quickly, hoping for a response, praying for something to tether me in this storm of heartbreak.

"Genesis, can we talk? I need you."

I hit send, the screen lighting up my darkened room. As the dots blinked, I held my breath, praying for an answer that might never come.
