Shin Bryant was an ordinary person. He attended a regular state university. His grades were average. He had friends. He was the only child of a middle-class family. In short, he was living the most ordinary life you could imagine. He was like the embodiment of the word "ordinary."
Of course, that was before everything changed-before his life turned upside down. As usual, he was leaving the university and heading home. He stopped by a market he saw on the way and bought the ingredients needed for dinner. Tonight, he was going to eat his favorite meal. After paying for the items, he left the market and started walking home.
As Shin daydreamed about getting home as quickly as possible, he heard noises coming from an alley. Normally, it wouldn't be wise to check something like that out alone. But like any curious college student, he couldn't resist and entered the alley.
When he reached the source of the noise, he saw something far from pleasant. Three men in their forties were harassing a young woman who attended the same university as him.
One of the men had his hand over her mouth to prevent her from screaming. Another was holding her legs to stop her from running away. The third man was approaching her. Vernon quietly snuck up behind the men. He found a rock on the ground and threw it at the man who was getting close to the girl.
The rock hit the man's head, and he collapsed in pain. The other two men turned to look at Vernon. The one who had been covering the girl's mouth rushed toward Vernon. As he approached, he pulled out a knife and attacked Shin.
Shin narrowly dodged the attack and punched the man in the face with all his strength. The man staggered and fell to the ground. Without wasting any time, Shin turned to face the last man, who was holding a gun and staring at him. Then the man fired, and the bullet hit Shin in the heart.
Shin, struck by sudden pain, lost his balance and collapsed. He grimaced as the unbearable burning sensation and pain overwhelmed his chest.
"Am I really going to die like this?"
The men ignored him and continued what they were doing. As Shin slowly started to lose consciousness, he thought about the book he had never finished writing.
"Ah, I wonder how it ends... I wish I had the chance to read it."
The last thing he heard before passing out was the sound of police sirens.
