I bolted up right and i'm blinded by fluorescent hospital lights and a heart monitor beeping erratically and deafeningly.
There is a short round table with a side mirror next to me. It was slightly dusty; it looked unused like it was put there and forgotten about. I peer in it and see a gaunt depressing face staring back. My once bright happy eyes that shone joy were now deepened with sorrow and hollow. 'W-what happened...' I was all I was able to croak out ' how long has it been-' I question myself. My now thin and frail hand reaches my pale cheek and touches it. I need to know if this is real.
black.
i open my eyes to see a dark haze, as the haze lifts i'm met with a family gathering of sorts, it's quiet, too quiet. the silence overwhelms my brain as me and four others sit at a round Victorian table, the plates are not quite full and not quite empty yet perfectly clean, the cups are slightly distorted, they look empty yet full. as i breath in a pungent smell infiltrates my nose making me silently gag. I look up at the pale faces of my supposed family to see them staring. They all looked wrong. Their eyes were too low and small, their mouths agape. and wide, Their noses are pointed yet flat, almost doll-like. As the person... no. the thing that seemed to be the mother figure glares her beady eyes at me. I see a small yet daunting smile grow in her face, the grin sending a chill down my spine. 'Please eat.' She slowly speaks, her voice is raspy and sounds like she has been smoking for years, it wasn't as caring and soft as you would think coming from a mother.
It wasn't a nurturing kind voice at all. It was ruff and commanding telling me if i didn't do exactly what it was telling me to do i would be in another thorn in her side. One she needed to pick out.
as i pick up my fork and take a small piece of the odd looking and smelling food 'mother' glitches? her face distorts her small slightly agar mouth contorts and opens into a widen darkened threatening smile. her eyes turned a deep inky black, showing she had no soul her nose and forehead becoming elongated. her hair moves from its once pristine up-do to one where it looks matted and un-cared for. as soon as i blink she reverts to her original uncanny state
I take a bite of the not right food. its putrid and unpleasant taste corrodes my tongue as i chew and chew until i cant ,i go to spit out the mass in my mouth i cant keep chewing and swallowing it? no way! 'mother' noticed that and decided to speak up 'please try to keep it down. It took me ages to make, darling.' her voice was ringing in my ears the word darling echoing in my brain, as i swallowed everything mangled together, my vision going blurry. then nothing, no memory, just a hazy dull room. My brain is a void, i cant hear anything but the wind. as my vision clears up i'm back to my hospital room?. Wait- i'm in a hospital? When? How? Was the food poisoned? Was I allergic to it? Why am I here? What happened?
Then it hit me. A memory of a ringing leader, one without a face. though it lacked eyes, it stared into my soul. But that's all I remember. Their eyeless creature made me freeze like a statue. Who was it? Was it a person? Was that my family? who ... am ... i? No, what am i?
Everything goes a deep obsidian black
