Hearing the door to the laboratory open, Elias turned around.
"Good morning, Dr. Hoffman!" he greeted Julia as she walked in.
"Morning! You're here early today," the woman said, approaching her desk and placing her bag on it.
"Yeah, I had an unbearable urge to get to work as early as possible today, to get away from Er..." Elias paused in mid-sentence, then added, "never mind though."
As he finished the sentence, he took a deep breath and smiled at his colleague.
Elias wanted to continue his sentese and to say that he just couldn't stand being with his idiot partner any longer. And that for the second night in a row, he barely slept because of thoughts about the situation created by Raven's fault. The situation that Elias did not like, to put it mildly.
Julia narrowed her eyes and looked at the guy carefully, with some suspicion. It seemed to her that something was off about Elias today. She pulled her chair closer to him and sat down on it, staring at him with an inquiring look.
"So, how did the event go?" she asked.
"Um... It went well," Elias replied briefly.
"You don't sound very convincing. Did something happen that shouldn't have?"
"No, nothing like that. It was really fine," he replied, averting his eyes from Julia's questioning gaze and focusing on his computer screen.
"Ok, I see. If you don't want to tell me, don't. I can hear all about it at the meeting tonight anyway," the woman said a little displeased and pushed the chair back to its original position.
In fact, Elias really wanted to tell Julia what had happened, to somehow get rid of the feeling of indignation that was still raging inside him. But his 'beloved' partner had strictly instructed him not to tell anyone anything yet, so as not to cause any unnecessary concern. Anyway, they were going to tell everyone tonight at the report to Chief Carter.
The two of them set to work, and Julia didn't question her colleague any further.
A few hours later, Eric suddenly came to them with a bag of coffee. He placed cups in front of Elias and Julia and smiled contentedly.
"Help yourself!" he said.
"Wow, Mr. Grant, why the generosity?" Julia asked, instantly perking up at the thought of coffee. "Did something good happen?"
"I just wanted to make my colleagues happy, that's all."
"Why would that be, I wonder..." Elias muttered under his breath, displeased.
"Anyway, Mr. Grant," the woman began after taking a sip of coffee, "Dr. Torres doesn't want to tell me how Saturday's event went. Perhaps you could tell me?"
"Hmm, he's not telling you?" looking Elias in the eyes in a sly sort of way, Raven asked. " Well, it's just a secret for now. But don't worry, everything went perfectly! You'll find out more details in the evening with the others," he said, smiling broadly.
Elias rolled his eyes at his partner's words. He pushed the coffee cup away from him, indicating that he was clearly not going to drink it, and gave Raven a disgruntled look. Then he returned his attention to the computer screen.
"Okay, I won't bother you any longer. See you later!"
"See you, Mr. Grant!" said Julia.
With a wave of his hand, Raven left the lab.

As the working day ended, the agents headed to the operation headquarters. Since Julia decided to stay at the lab for a little longer, Elias and Eric left without her. And as usual, they were driving with music playing in the background. To Elias's delight, with normal music that he had chosen.
"Have you noticed?" Raven asked, after about 10 minutes had passed on the way.
"What exactly: your new tie or the black car that has been following us all the way from the office?" asked Elias sarcastically.
"Oh, the tie isn't new, I just haven't worn it to work yet... And I'm glad you noticed it," the blond said in a pleased tone, "however, I was talking about the car."
"And who it could be?" Elias asked, looking in the rearview mirror at the suspicious black car with tinted windows.
"It's probably Rhino has put a stakeout on us."
"Why would he do that?" the guy raised an eyebrow in question.
"To make sure we weren't lying or being suspicious?"
"Well, makes sense. But it's still kind of weird. Do you think he's checking up on everyone who was at the event?"
"I think at least on those who piqued his interest," Eric replied with a shrug.
"Then we can take it as a good sign... But how are we supposed to throw them off now? We can't have them following us all the way to the headquarters," Elias said worriedly.
They stopped at a traffic light that was just about to turn green.
"There is a way," Eric said with confidence.
As soon as the traffic light changed to green, the blond quickly shifted gears and accelerated. The sudden increase in speed made the tyres shriek on the asphalt. Elias was jolted slightly and gripped the seat belt tightly with his hands. Through the exterior rearview mirrors, they could see the car behind them rapidly moving away. Or rather, they were moving away from it.
"What the hell are you doing?! The fact that we accelerated so sharply is very suspicious!" Elias grumbled.
"Not at all. They'll just think I'm a crazy daredevil driver. The only thing is, from now on we'll have to do this periodically to convince them of that," the blond replied calmly.
Elias responded to his partner's words with silence and a facepalm.
A few minutes later, Eric suddenly turned a corner onto a narrow, one-way road, thereby finally losing their chasers. After driving around in circles for a while to make sure that no one was following them anymore, they pulled out onto the main road and drove at normal speed to the headquarters.
