December 6th 1995

A wet sensation on my cheek stirred me awake, as I opened my eyes, I saw Lilo, happily licking away at my face like usual. Giggling softly, strong his soft fur, I jumped out of bed and stretched as I made my way over to the kitchen.

"Happy Birthday Cecilia!" Lazarus smiles crouching down beside me to give me a warm hug. I never actually knew when my birthday was but I guess Lazarus decided it was the day Bill saved me, I had no objections to this, I mean it was my beginning as far as I know. From behind his back he pulled out a pretty moonstone necklace. It was this gorgeous crescent moon necklace, with fine details of silver swirls. Suspended in the middle was a glowing orb blue orb encased in a metal cage. "To keep you safe" he said putting the necklace on around my neck.

"Bill's going to come visit, he'll be here anytime soon" he said as he turned on the stove and delicately cracked some eggs on the frying pan.

An hour had passed and still no sign of Bill, we had already eaten breakfast and I was beginning to worry, when suddenly there was a knock on the door.

Quickly, I rush over to the door all cheery and i shout to Lazarus in the other room, "I'll get it"

However, when I opened the door, the boy who stood before me was not Bill, but he did resemble him. My expression turned from one of joy to a more sour and confused look. He was drenched in blood. His blonde dreadlocks hung low and his eyes were filled with sadness and fear. Even though he was a mess, he didn't scare me, I could tell he wasn't a threat. Without uttering a word I stepped aside and let him come in.

"Bill, let's see what y-" Lazarus strutted out of his room before stopping in his tracks when he saw the boy stood before me. Frantically, he runs over  putting his hands on his shoulders, "Tom!" he gasped, "what happened?!" he questioned scanning his blood soaked clothes.

I took that as my queue to go into my room, I stayed by the door trying to listen into the conversation but most of what I got out were just the odd word. One sentence stood out to me in particular though, Tom said it much louder than anything previously, practically breaking down, "get rid of my powers, I want them gone, they are no more than a burden to me, I want to live a normal life. Lazarus I beg of you!" What happened after that I am unsure of but one thing is for certain, Lazarus was going some kind of enchantment.

About an hour had passed and I was still waiting patiently in my room, praying that Bill would come by at any moment. Instead, the only person who opened my door was Lazarus. With sorrow in his voice, he began "I'm so sorry Cecilia, Bill won't be able to see you today" Upon hearing this, I must admit, I was a bit upset but I understood it was a matter out of his hands. "I hate to ask this of you but I have some matters I must attend to promptly, help Tom clean up he will be living with us from this moment" And with that he was off and out of the house.

I shyly stepped out of my room, heading to the living room where the boy was sat on the sofa alongside Lilo. I glanced at him with sympathetic eyes. "Follow me" I smiled gently, grabbing a small hand towel from the shelf. I took him to the bathroom and sat him down on the toilet. I approached this boy with caution, I had no idea what he could have just gone through but I know the spell Lazarus must of preformed on him was pretty powerful, he looked exhausted when he came into my room. "Can I wipe the blood off your face" I asked the young boy. He meekly nodded, his head hanging low. I asked for permission before I did anything to him, otherwise I felt as if the fragile boy in front of me would fall into pieces. I carefully wet the towel under the tap, squeezing all of the excess water out of it before caressing the smooth fabric along the surface of his cheek.

His expression did not change once, he remained still and silent allowing me to look after him. Once I finished cleaning up his face I began running the tap from the bathtub, adjusting the water, ensuring that it wasn't too hot or too cold. As I let the water run, I rushed out and dug through Lazarus' closet trying to find anything smaller, it was wrong to force the boy to stay in his blood stained clothes. I came back into the bathroom, plopping the change of clothes onto the floor. When the bathtub was full to the brim I twisted the tap with all my force and turned the water off. "I'll be in the living room if you need me" I spoke softly, closing the door as I left.

The young boy, 'Tom' I think his name was, was clearly in some sort of trance. What I didn't know at this point in time was that he would be staying with us permanently. Most people would have seen this as a birthday ruined, but the way I saw it was I was returning the act of kindness given to me at my time of desperation. In a way, it was the best gift I could ask for.
