"Encore! Encore!" the crowd chanted, their voices booming as Twenty One Pilots walked off the stage after an electrifying performance of 'Car Radio'.
Backstage, Tyler and Josh grabbed water bottles, catching their breath.
"Are we doing an encore?" Josh asked, glancing at Tyler.
Tyler raised an eyebrow, a playful smile tugging at his lips. "Did you forget there's one song we didn't play?"
Josh chuckled. "Don't tell me the title—let's make it a surprise for both of us."
Tyler laughed, taking the setlist from a crew member. In the encore section, marked with a question mark, Tyler scribbled a song title and handed it back. Though unsure whether they'd perform an encore due to the mixed crowd, Tyler and Josh felt the energy of the moment might just be enough.
Jordan felt curious and tried to sneak a peek at the setlist—but Tyler's handwriting was too small. All he could make out were the words 'drum on the heads, confetti at the ends'.
Helen, standing beside him, smiled. "I think I know which song they're going to play."
"What song?" Jordan asked, surprised. "I thought you didn't know many of their songs."
Helen chuckled. "They made a good choice for an encore, because I'm falling so I'm taking my time..."
Jordan looked confused, still not catching on to the clue Helen had just dropped.
A few moments later, Tyler and Josh returned to the stage. Josh took his seat behind the drums, and Tyler slung his bass over his shoulder. They nodded to each other, silently confirming they were on the same page. The intro began, and the crowd's energy surged once more as the familiar tune echoed through the park.
"Oh," Jordan laughed. "It's 'Ride'!"
Helen nodded with a knowing grin. "Told you I gave you a hint."
Jordan shook his head, laughing. "Guess I'm not great at guessing songs."
As 'Ride' hit its infectious chorus, the crowd exploded, shouting along with the lyrics.
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
I'm fallin' so I'm taking my time on my ride
Oh, oh, oh, oh
I'm fallin' so I'm taking my time on my ride
When the interlude hit, Tyler and Josh paused the song. Some die-hard fans of Twenty One Pilots could feel the excitement skyrocketing, knowing what was coming next. Josh stepped away from his drum set and headed toward the edge of the stage. A platform emerged in the middle of the audience, and Josh gestured for the crowd to steady it until it was sturdy and ready.
The crowd erupted into cheers as Josh climbed onto the drum platform. Fans below raised it with their hands, lifting him high above the sea of people.
"Don't let him fall, okay?" Tyler joked. "It's his first time drumming on a platform in a park, so you're responsible for keeping him up. Let's make this an unforgettable night for all of us."
With a wide grin and a nod to the crowd, Josh gripped his drumsticks and began pounding out an electrifying beat. The platform rocked slightly as the fans swayed beneath him, but Josh played flawlessly, his energy radiating to those who held him up.
