Red's POV: Why am I such a failure? I swear nothing I ever do will make her happy, I try, but nothing is ever good enough.
A young, probably no older than 12 or 13 Red, stood in the corner of her mom's study, her hands together behind her back as her mother stood before her.
QoH-"115, your 5 pounds over Red, you know what that means."
Red-"Please, mom, I can't keep doing this!"
The Queen of Hearts slapped Red against her face, causing the young girl to recoil into the corner further.
QoH-"You do not raise your voice at me! No food for the next week!"
Red slumped into the corner and began to sob into her knees.
QoH-"How old are you, Red? Crying is for babies, go get dressed and be presentable, we have court this afternoon."
The QoH eyes lit up, and a small smile formed when she said court, Red wasn't surprised, she knew all too well that court was just the fancy word for execution in this God forsaken kingdom. Red slowly got up and walked into her room.
Red's POV: Of course, she gets excited over court. Why wouldn't she? She just loves to behead everyone. Why can't she just get it over with and do it to me.
Red entered her room and reached her dresser, moving clothes out of the way until she found a small stylized box, which she quickly picked up. As she opened it, her expression changed, a frown forming. She stared at the nearly empty box, only 1 item inside being a candy bar.
Red's POV: Figures I would run out on the day she takes my food. god, my luck is horrible.
Red threw the box back into her dresser and grabbed her court clothes before heading into her tiny bathroom. As she stripped, she took a minute to look at herself. She was thin, but in her eyes, she was still overweight, her body wasn't developing the way she had wished, and her mother of course wasn't letting her live that one down either, not to mention the scars. Red slowly entered the shower and adjusted the water to her preferred temperature, setting in as she began to shampoo her crimson hair. As Red finished her shower and got dressed, the realization that she didn't know who was getting executed today dawned on her. She hurried down to the courtyard to meet her mother, hoping she wasn't late.
QoH-"Right on time for once, and you don't look absolutely ridiculous!"
Red's POV: Am I dreaming, or did she just compliment me?
Sadly for Red, she wasn't dreaming, infact what happened next has been burned into her memory for the rest of her life. The QoH took the stand, ordering the guards to bring out the unfortunate individual who was going to meet the executioner today. Red's blood ran cold as she caught sight of who was brought out in shackles.
Red's POV: No, no, no, I should have known she was gonna do this.
Her mom looked at the boy as he was forced into position. She then looked out to address the crowd.
QoH-"Today, this boy will be tried for crimes against my daughter. Last weekend, I caught this boy on top of my daughter, doing unspeakable things to her."
As the QoH continued, all Red wanted to do was stop her, tell everyone the truth of what happened. The boy was her friend Ace, she had snuck him into the castle the week prior and they had began to kiss at one point, Ace hadn't forced Red to do I nor did Red stop it, but her mother had walked in on them.
Red's POV: I knew she was upset, but I didn't think she'd actually go this far, I've got to stop this!
Red ran up next to her mom and grabbed the microphone from her hand.
Red -"Everyone listen, he didn't do anything wrong, all we did was kiss and I let him do it, he didn't force me."
The QoH's grabbed the mic from Red, slapping her before pushing her to the ground hard. As Red hit the ground, her head slammed into the pavement.
QoH-"Clearly, the boy has manipulated my daughter as well, for the crimes I sentence him to death, OFF WITH HIS HEAD!"
Red's vision was blurred, her earing was echoing and she could feel herself drifting out of consciousness, the last thing she head was the sound of steel hitting flesh, something hit the ground, and cheering.
Red shot awake, her body covered in cold sweat as she breathed heavily. Moonlight cascaded through the window, framing her in a beautiful glow. But her mind was fixated on the events she just relived, all these years later, and the dream was just as vivid as the day it happened. Red got up and headed for the bathroom. She splashed cool water against her face, trying to forget the horrific memory of her best friends demise, trying hard not to blame herself for it. Looking back, she feels like that was the event that really changed her the most, after Ace was killed, she had started to become cold and rude, more like her mother, she had started to listen more, and as she had gotten older had learned how to get back at her mom without getting herself in trouble, all the while slightly earning her mother's admiration, although admittedly she knew her mom still hated her. Red looked at herself in the mirror. She had finally started to develop a few years ago, and by now, she was happy with where she was, though her mother was still hoping for more. She'd stopped eating as much, sometimes going days at a time without anything other than water, her mother had actually commended her discipline and allowed her to have access to the kitchen when she wanted, but she never felt the drive to actually eat until she had to. Red lay back down on her bed, still trying to force the memories out of her head. As she scanned the room, she spotted her leather jacket and bat. Red exited through a window and made her way into the courtyard, planning to leave a trail of destruction in her wake.
⚠️Authors note⚠️
You all like trauma? This story has alot of trauma, Red's been through it, so buckle up, also how are we liking the POV, obviously I'm still learning how I want to use it so utilization may be minimal for a few chapters until I get the hang of it. Peace!
