it was just a regular tuesday when everything changed.
you were on your way home from school, already looking forward to playing street fighter 6 as soon as you got back. fighting games weren't exactly your thing, but the technical skill and precision needed to pull off intricate combos intrigued you. plus, there was something exhilarating about winning with a character no one expected to dominate.
as you walked, lost in thought, you accidentally bumped into two students from your school. one had purple hair tied neatly into a bun, while the other had messy white hair. the impact sent the soccer ball the purple-haired guy was holding flying from his hands.
"my bad, gang," you said, quickly using your heel to redirect the ball mid-air before smoothly catching it with your hands.
the purple-haired guy stared at you, intrigued. after a brief pause, he took the ball back, a faint smirk forming as he asked, "you. do you play soccer?"
his tone carried a hint of challenge, like he'd already decided your answer. the white-haired guy next to him gave you a sideways glance, his expression hard to read.
"nah, not really. why?" you shrugged, unsure why they seemed so interested.
reo twirled the ball in his hands. "that move you pulled? redirecting the ball like that takes skill. you've got some natural talent."
you raised an eyebrow. "it was just a reflex."
reo grinned. "reflexes like that are useful in soccer. how about it? interested in learning? we could teach you."
you paused, considering. you'd never really tried many sports. to you, there wasn't much point as anything you touched, you naturally excelled at. but maybe this could be fun, even if just for a while.
and, well, it wasn't like you had anything better to do.
"sure, why not."
"awesome! i'm mikage reo, and this guy here is seishiro nagi," reo said with a grin, nudging nagi to acknowledge you.
"yo," nagi mumbled lazily.
"i'm (y/n) kurosaki," you replied, giving a small smile.
"follow us. we'll show you the ropes," reo said, leading the way.
"alright, let's see what you've got."
you couldn't have known it then, but that random encounter---or was it fate? would change everything.
💍💍💍
it's been almost three months since you started playing soccer with reo and nagi, and honestly? you'd say it's been... kind of fun.
not exactly thrilling, but enough to keep you interested for the time being.
you picked up the basics of soccer in no time -- thanks to your talent to adapt to anything you try -- and over the weeks, you've actually started seeing the duo as real friends. a rare thing for you.
sure, you know you're better than both of them, but unlike with others you've met, you don't feel the urge to use them for your own amusement.
"is this what friendship feels like?" you wonder whilst sitting on a random patch of grass, watching the two practice their dribbling. reo's taking it seriously as usual, while nagi looks like he's ready to bail and queue up for another match of MLBB.
you sigh, running a hand through your short (h/c) hair. as much as you enjoy hanging out with them, you've been itching to get home and watch parkour civilization: the movie part 2.
