Amber freeman x gn reader

The sound of raindrops tapping against the motel window filled the room, a soft, steady rhythm that seemed to match the slow, quiet breaths of Amber lying beside you. The world outside was asleep, but you were wide awake, staring at the ceiling as thoughts of your uncertain future played in your mind.

How long could you keep this up? How long could you and Amber hide from the inevitable?

You turned your head to look at her. Amber was curled up next to you, her hair tousled, her expression soft in the dim light of the bedside lamp. For a brief moment, she didn't look like the killer you had spent years chasing, the girl who had escaped the clutches of justice. She just looked... peaceful. Vulnerable, even.

But that peace was fragile, you knew that. The ghosts of the past still haunted her, and sooner or later, those ghosts would come knocking on your door.

A soft sigh escaped your lips as you reached out to brush a strand of hair from her face. She stirred at the touch, her eyes fluttering open to meet yours. A small smile tugged at her lips as she woke, and for a second, it felt like everything was going to be okay.

"You're staring again," she murmured, her voice raspy from sleep.

"Can't help it," you replied with a smirk. "You look peaceful when you sleep."

Amber's smile faded slightly, and she rolled onto her back, staring up at the ceiling. "Yeah... peaceful. That's me."

You could hear the heaviness in her voice, the weight of everything she had been carrying. Gently, you reached over, your fingers tracing circles on her arm. "Amber... talk to me."

She didn't respond for a while, just lay there, her chest rising and falling as she tried to find the right words. "I'm scared," she finally admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.

Your heart clenched at the admission. It wasn't often that Amber let herself be vulnerable like this, but when she did, it was like seeing her without all the layers of armor she wore.

"What are you scared of?" you asked softly, your hand still gently caressing her arm.

Amber's eyes flickered to yours, filled with a mixture of fear and guilt. "I'm scared that I'll never be able to stop running. That this... us... it's not going to last."

You swallowed hard, the reality of her words hitting you like a punch to the gut. You had been thinking the same thing, but hearing her say it made it feel all the more real.

"It can last," you whispered, leaning in closer, pressing a soft kiss to her temple. "We'll figure it out. We'll find a way to be together."

Amber closed her eyes, leaning into your touch. "How can you still believe in that after everything? After what I've done?"

"Because I love you," you replied without hesitation. "I don't care about what happened before. I care about you, now, in this moment."
