The following are my explanations of why I used the YouTube songs per chapter, as each echoed the words of what my character would say or do.
Chapter 1: The Golden Child - Self-Control sung by Laura Branigan
I chose this song for Joleyne Slider because her character is a young soul who has lost her self-identity. Being rich is not all that matters in life.Love conquers all. As Joleyne could live among the creatures of the night as the song suggests, her masked man awaits.
Chapter 2: Damaged Goods: Just like Fire sung by P!nk
I chose this song for Elizabeth 'Eliza' MacQuoid as in the opening of this chapter she breaks free from a straight jacket. To me, that is a symbol of how some ignorant people see those who have a handicap, mental problem or the like. This is actually how I was, since I used to have low self esteem. So those like me want to break free from the 'barriers', and that is how Eliza is portrayed. She can be like "fire' ... sparks igniting like fireworks!
Chapter 3: The Reveal: You don't know how it feels sung by Tom Petty
As Junior/G.R. or otherwise known as the Grim Reaper, I imagined him telling Lucifer the struggles he goes through just to be like his predecessors. Junior's character is not like the normal monster, as he wants to 'break the ice' of how the Underworld is perceived
Chapter 4: Temptation: These Dreams sung by Heart
In a dream, either Joleyne or Eliza is singing this as they know they will be sharing bodies as Junior has laid down the law. Either Joleyne or Eliza must go through the test of "Temptation".
The one who has the worst outcome after their love has failed to accept them back, goes to the abode of the damned. The other gains her wings to fly to the heavenly kingdom.
Chapter 5: Judgment Day: Second Chance sung by Shinedown
It's clear that this story gives someone a second chance to live again. As the motto YOLO (you only live once) states live your life the right way because for Joleyne and Eliza ... tomorrow might be too late.
And that sums up the storyline for my chapters, but I'd like to explain the songs for my Author's Note and the Playlist.
