Red blinked awake, the morning light filtering through the sheer curtains. She turned slowly, feeling the warmth of the body next to her. Chloe, with her messy hair and peaceful expression, lay asleep beside her. Red smiled faintly, memories of yesterday night swirling in her mind. It had been a horrible day and certainly a day she never wanted to relive.

Red couldn't help but think about how last night was almost the end. She almost killed herself.

As if sensing Red awake, Chloe stirred and opened her eyes, her gaze softening when she saw Red.

"Morning," she murmured, her voice still thick with sleep.

"Morning," Red replied, trying to keep her tone light.

Chloe pushed herself up on one elbow, a small bit of concern still in her eyes. "How are you feeling?"

Red hesitated, the weight of yesterday lingering in her chest. "Better, I think."

Chloe studied her for a moment before her smile returned, albeit faintly. "Good. Let's make today relaxed, okay?"

They decided to spend the day together, to reconnect and find comfort in each other. Chloe pulled out her sketchbook, filled with vibrant drawings that always seemed to capture the essence of their shared moments. "Let's draw the world around us," she suggested.

The two girls spent hours in the school garden, surrounded by blooming flowers and chirping birds. Chloe sketched while Red tried to mimic her, but the lines felt wrong, jagged and hesitant. As Red concentrated, she caught Chloe glancing at her, a shadow of sadness crossing her face.

"Chloe, are you okay?" Red asked, setting her pencil down.

"Yeah, just thinking," Chloe replied, forcing a smile that didn't reach her eyes.

Red frowned, unsure of how to help. She wanted to comfort Chloe, to chase away whatever was on her heart, but she didn't know how. Instead, she reached for Chloe's hand, intertwining their fingers.

"Let's take a break," Red suggested. "What do you want to do?"

Chloe hesitated, then suggested they take a walk. Red tried to engage Chloe in conversation, but each attempt was met with short answers, her usual enthusiasm weighing heavily.

As they sat on a bench overlooking a small pond, Red felt the need to break through Chloe's wall.

"Chloe, I know you're not okay. Please talk to me."

Chloe's eyes shimmered with unshed tears. "I'm just worried about you, Red. Yesterday scared me."

Red's heart tightened. "I know. I didn't mean to scare you. I'm still here, and I'm trying."

Chloe turned to her, the vulnerability in her gaze making Red's chest ache. "I want to help you, but it hurts to see you like this."

Red moved closer, grabbing Chloe's face in her hands. "I need you. You're my light."

At that moment, something shifted. Chloe leaned into Red's touch, their foreheads touching. The world around them faded, and all that existed was the connection they shared. In that fragile space, Red felt an overwhelming need to close the emotional distance.

Without thinking, Red pressed her lips against Chloe's in a passionate kiss, pouring all her love, desperation, and hope into it. Chloe responded, her arms wrapping tightly around Red's waist, pulling her closer. It was a moment of relief and understanding, a silent promise that they would navigate the storm together.
