The cabin was chaos. Claws slashed through the air, teeth bared in snarls, and the air was thick with the scent of blood and sweat. Emma stood frozen near the fire, her back pressed against the stone hearth, watching her brothers fight with a terrifying, animalistic grace.
Luca, Ethan, and Kai had fully shifted now. Their massive wolf forms tore through the intruders with precision and ferocity, their glowing eyes locked on their enemies. The air crackled with the sound of bodies crashing against the walls, wood splintering, and low, guttural growls.
Emma's heart raced, but she couldn't move. She wanted to help, to be part of the fight—but what could she do? She wasn't like them. Not yet.
The truth hung in the air, unspoken but heavy. There was something inside her, something her brothers hadn't fully explained, and she could feel it now, like a fire burning deep in her chest, waiting to ignite. Her skin tingled, and the energy pulsing through her veins was like nothing she had ever felt.
As she tried to make sense of it all, another wolf crashed through the window, its eyes gleaming a sickly red. It was larger than the others, more vicious. It lunged toward her with terrifying speed.
Emma's instincts screamed at her to run, but she couldn't. She was paralyzed, watching in horror as the creature's jaws opened wide, teeth glinting in the dim light.
Before it could reach her, Ethan appeared out of nowhere, slamming into the rogue wolf with all his force. They tumbled across the room in a blur of fur and claws, crashing into the wall with a deafening thud.
But more were coming.
Luca's voice, still human despite his wolf form, barked out an order: "Emma, get out of here!"
She shook her head, her fists clenched. "No! I'm not leaving!"
The ground seemed to shift beneath her, the air around her pulsing with energy. She felt the power inside her build, rising like a wave that threatened to crash over everything. Her breath quickened, her pulse thundering in her ears.
The door flew open, and a figure stepped inside. He wasn't a wolf, not like the others. He was tall, with sharp, angular features and pale skin that seemed to glow in the moonlight. His eyes were cold, calculating, and they locked on Emma immediately.
"Ah," he said, his voice smooth and eerily calm amidst the chaos. "The half-blood. I've been looking forward to this."
Emma's blood ran cold. There was something about him—something darker, more dangerous than the wolves tearing apart the cabin. She could feel his power radiating off him like a storm, suffocating and relentless.
Luca growled, stepping between Emma and the stranger. "Get away from her."
The man smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes. "You can't protect her forever, wolf. She belongs to us now."
Luca lunged at him, but the man moved faster than she thought possible, grabbing him by the throat and slamming him into the wall with a force that shook the entire cabin. Luca struggled, his claws digging into the man's arm, but it was no use. The stranger was too strong.
Kai and Ethan rushed to Luca's aid, but the intruders kept them at bay, forcing them into a brutal fight that left Emma exposed. The pale man's eyes flicked back to her, and his smile widened.
"You're stronger than you realize, Emma," he said, his voice almost mocking. "But you'll never be strong enough to resist what's inside you. It's only a matter of time."
Emma's pulse quickened, her vision blurring as the power inside her surged again, demanding to be let loose. The air around her seemed to thrum with electricity, and her body felt like it was vibrating with energy. She could feel it—whatever it was—waiting just beneath the surface, clawing to be free.
"I don't know what you're talking about," she said, her voice shaking. "I don't have any powers."
The man laughed, a cold, hollow sound. "Oh, but you do. It's in your blood. And soon, it will consume you."
The fire behind her roared suddenly, its flames flaring as if responding to the rising tension in the room. Emma flinched, but something about it felt familiar, like it was part of her. She stared at the fire, her hands trembling, and for a moment, she swore she could feel it—feel the heat in her chest, matching the wild energy inside her.
The man's eyes narrowed. "You can feel it, can't you? The power. It's been dormant for too long, but now it's waking up. You won't be able to hide it much longer."
"I'm not hiding anything!" Emma shouted, her voice cracking as fear and frustration collided inside her. The fire flared again, and this time, the flames twisted, reaching toward her like they were alive.
The man stepped closer, his voice a low, menacing whisper. "Let it out. Show me what you are."
Emma's heart pounded, her body trembling with the effort of holding back the power she didn't understand. She could feel it now, wild and dangerous, like a storm trapped inside her, and it was taking everything she had not to let it consume her.
But then something snapped.
The power surged forward, and before Emma could stop it, the fire exploded outward, filling the cabin with blinding light and searing heat. She gasped, stumbling back as the flames shot toward the man, engulfing him in an instant.
He screamed, his cold composure shattered as the fire wrapped around him, burning hotter and brighter with every second. His pale skin blackened, his eyes wide with shock as the flames consumed him.
Emma stood frozen, her chest heaving, her hands still trembling. She had done that. She didn't know how, but she had done it.
The cabin fell silent.
The rogue wolves that had been attacking her brothers backed away, their eyes wide with fear as they stared at her. Even Luca, Ethan, and Kai had stopped fighting, their eyes fixed on her, their expressions unreadable.
The fire died down, leaving nothing but ash where the man had stood. Emma's legs gave out, and she sank to the floor, her mind reeling.
"What just happened?" she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Luca was the first to move, shifting back to his human form as he knelt beside her. His face was pale, his eyes wide with disbelief.
"Emma..." he began, but he couldn't seem to find the words.
Ethan and Kai shifted back as well, their expressions just as shocked. For a long moment, no one spoke.
Then Ethan crouched down next to her, his voice soft but urgent. "You... you did that."
Emma shook her head, still in shock. "I don't know how. I didn't mean to—"
Kai's voice cut through her confusion, his tone calm but firm. "It doesn't matter. What matters is that it's real. You're not just part wolf, Emma. There's something more. Something powerful."
Luca nodded slowly, his eyes dark with worry. "And now, everyone knows."
Emma's stomach twisted. She had felt powerful in that moment, but it hadn't been a good feeling. It had been terrifying. Uncontrollable.
And now, with her secret out, she realized she wasn't just a target. She was a weapon.
And everyone would want her.
"We need to leave," Luca said, rising to his feet, his voice tense with urgency. "Now."
Ethan pulled her up, his grip gentle but firm. "We'll figure this out, Emma. Together. But we need to move. More will come."
Emma nodded, her legs weak beneath her, but she managed to stand. Her brothers were right—they had to go. But as they hurried toward the door, a dark thought settled in the back of her mind.
If she couldn't control this power inside her, what would she become?
And worse—what if she couldn't protect them from it?
