The following day, the tension from our training session still lingered in the air as I met Kael and Narya in the cabin. I felt a mixture of wariness and curiosity about what lay ahead. Despite my reservations, I couldn't shake the feeling that there was a part of me willing to believe in Kael's vision—a world where the dark lords no longer held power over the kingdom.

Kael paced the small room, his brow furrowed with determination. "We need to act quickly. The dark lords won't expect a united front from us. Penelope, your magic is key. You are so close to mastering your power, we can strike where they least expect it."

He knows nothing about what I know about my power, I could kill them all right now if I wanted to.

I crossed my arms, still grappling with my doubts pushing those thoughts away. "And how do you expect me to just trust you? What guarantees do I have that this isn't a ploy for your own gain?"

Lysandra, one of the few allies who I have met, stepped forward, her gaze earnest. "Because we share the same enemy, Penelope. We're all fighting for the same thing—freedom from the dark lords. If you help us, you'll not only be saving your own life but countless others."

Kael nodded in agreement. "We're not asking you to jump in blindly. We want you to be part of the plan, to understand the risks and the rewards."

I took a deep breath, feeling the weight of their expectations. "Fine. I'll listen. But I want a clear understanding of what we're facing."

Kael grabbed a map from the table and spread it out before us. "This is the kingdom as it stands. The dark lords have divided it into territories, each controlled by one of them. They're like a hydra—cut off one head, and two more grow back. We need to be strategic."

"Where do we start?" I asked, leaning closer to the map causing our arms to touch slightly and he leans more into my touch.

Kael reaches over with his opposite hand and pointed to a territory in the northern part of the kingdom. "This is Lord Varek's domain. He's the weakest of the three lords, and his followers are restless. If we can create a distraction among his ranks, we can weaken him significantly."

"Creating unrest sounds risky," I cautioned. "What if it backfires?"

"Exactly," Kael replied, his eyes shining with enthusiasm. "But if it works, it could serve as a rallying point for others who want to rise against the dark lords. You can use your magic to inspire them, to show them they're not alone."

"What about you?" I asked, glancing at Kael. "What role do you play in all of this?"

He smiled, confidence radiating from him. "I'll lead the charge. My connection to the fae will help rally support. But I need you to be the beacon of hope. Your magic will show them that there's a chance for a better future."

Lysandra interjected pushing her red hair back as she looks at the map, "And we need to gather our allies. We'll send scouts to the neighboring territories to find those willing to join our cause. If we act quickly and decisively, we can catch them off guard."

I stared at the map, feeling a mixture of fear and excitement. "So, we're really doing this? We're going to take on the dark lords?"

"Yes," Kael said, his tone serious. "But we need to be prepared for anything. They'll retaliate, and we must be ready."

I swallowed hard, my heart racing. "What if they come for us first? What's our plan then?"

Kael turns to me and places his hands on either side of my face, his presence both reassuring and intimidating. "We'll use the element of surprise. We're not fighting them on their terms; we'll create distractions and chaos to draw them out. Once we weaken them, we can move in."

"And what about you and me?" I asked, the question escaping my lips before I could stop it. "What if they find out about...us?"

Kael's gaze softened, and for a moment, I felt the vulnerability beneath his confident exterior. "If they find out, we fight together. You're not alone in this, Penelope. Trust me."

His words stirred something deep within me, a flicker of belief that maybe he was right. I wanted to be part of something bigger, to help create the change we so desperately needed.

"Okay," I said finally taking a step back away from him to gather myself, feeling a surge of determination. "Let's do it. Let's take back what's ours."

Kael's smile widened, and he leaned in closer. "That's the spirit. Together, we'll make them pay for what they've done."

As we began to strategize, laying out the details of our plan, I felt a sense of purpose growing within me. The spark of rebellion ignited, and despite my lingering doubts, I was ready to fight for a cause greater than myself.

With each passing moment, the weight of the dark lords' oppression seemed a little lighter. I was no longer just a girl with a tragic past; I was becoming a key player in the fight for a brighter future. And as Kael's laughter mingled with our discussions, I couldn't help but feel that maybe, just maybe, this was where I was meant to be.
