Ariel's P.O.V
My mother was everything to me. I loved her with all of my heart. No matter what she wanted I did my best for her to have it. She deserves it all.
One day everything changed. It wasn't as normal as the others. When she got off work she walked through the door smiling rather than having a slew of curse words leave her lips. Her eyes bright and vibrant and not full of dread or drained of emotion.
As she crossed the threshold into the living room and cleared her throat. I closed my laptop and turned to my mom with a smile plastered across my face.
"You seem a bit ecstatic after a 12 hour shift. Is it drugs?"
"What?! No I got a call from Mrs. Min.....Why would my own child suspect me of doing drugs," my mother inquired a bit shocked. I shrugged. "Anyway her son lands at the airport in about and hour so we have to go get him."
"Okay? But who is he? And why are we picking him up?"
"I'll explain in the car but we have to leave now so he's not waiting on us."
I followed her out the door and into the car not waiting for her to even put on a seat belt. I had a barrage of questions and she needed to have a barrage of answers.
"Why are you looking at me," she said still focused on the road not giving me a glance.
"Who are we getting from the airport?"
"Years ago I put you as a candidate for an arranged marriage. Now we have to pick him up."
I was barely 19 and she sprang this on me. How am I supposed to get married so young when I don't even know this man. Do I even want to marry someone? What if I didn't even love him? What if I did but he didn't love me?
I stared at my hands wringing themselves for what felt like days. One thumb crossing the other as my fingers lock together and slip away. My thoughts centered around my image and my wants. Transient bouts of surreal sentience came and went and honestly my mind was too occupied to pull me out of my haze.
Less than an hour later we arrived at the airport and I was made to go inside. She handed me a picture before I crumpled it in my fist and slammed the door. As I got inside near baggage claim I looked at the picture to see who I was promised to, but as I took a look at the picture my heart fell to my feet and I started seeing stars. My knees buckled and my hands started to shake.
As I waited in front of the gate I saw his blood red hair through everyone. He looked around searching for who I assumed to be me. I took a few steps closer hoping he'd finally see me but I was wrong. I was too short to even catch his radar and he walked right into me. With a step back a small 'sorry' was cut off. I looked up to see Suga staring at me surprised. I smiled at him as he checked his phone and waved to me.
"Hey Suga, I'm sorry about the nose legos," I said chuckling trying to not tackle him.
I saw him look down at his phone again and smile at me. Did he have my picture? I looked at him further as he seemed to asses my 5'2 figure that was noticeably shorter than his 5'9.
"You must be Ariel. It's nice to finally see you again. Now you can't shove legos up my nose without reason," he said cocking an eyebrow. I laughed guiding him to baggage claim and then back to the car. As he got in I couldn't help but panic, the house needed work and I needed to do it. On the car ride back I started seeing starts again as the edges of my vision started being enveloped in black. Blood Pressure?
I felt the car pull into the driveway but I could barely raise my head. I had broken out into a cold sweat and I knew standing up would lead to the sweet union of me and the concrete. My mom saw me in the back with my head on his shoulder and smiled but as I opened my mouth Suga broke the silence.
"She's been sleeping the entire ride back and I don't think I should wake her up."
"I'm not sleep, my blood pressure is low right now." I shifted my eyes to him and then my mom who finally saw just how pale I was compared to my usual complexion. Suga shifted under my head before I saw him slide out of the car and get into a crouching position. To me this was a sign to get on his back so I started to weakly scoot to the car door before latching onto his back.
He carried me inside as my mom pointed upstairs. At the top I pointed to the door on the left across a family room. As he opened the door I two little shadows darted outside but he didn't notice. I was placed on the bed before he turned around and went back downstairs. This was most likely to get his bags from the car. I reached onto a shelf and grabbed my pajama shirt, hopefully I could put it on before he got his bags inside.
As he got back up to the room I was under the covers eating a sleeve of crackers and drinking a gatorade to help restore my blood pressure. His eyes switched between me and his bags to which I pointed to the closet. He nodded and shoved his suitcases inside prior to coming to sit on the side of my bed and feeling my forehead. He frowned feeling that my skin was cold and immediately turned off my fan.
"Turn it back on. When I feel better I'm going to burn up." He shook his head and turned the fan on but onto a lower setting than what it was on originally.
"Are you feeling any better now?"
