---------------EMILEY'S P.O.V.------------------
"Emily, are you sure you’re comfortable with this... friend?"
Kevin’s voice trailed off, but I could sense the weight of his words. My heart pounded as I looked between him and Arson, stuck between loyalty to my best friend and the strange pull Arson had on me. It was a battle I wasn’t ready for, yet somehow, I was already losing.
I felt like I shouldn't disappoint Kevin—he's more than a best friend, he’s like a brother to me. I know whatever decision he makes is only for my good. But, for some reason, pressure bore down on me, pushing me to defy him. So, stupidly, I said yes to Arson.
Kevin’s grip on my waist tightened, his frustration clear, before he pulled away. He’s mad. And I felt a wave of guilt. He moved to the couch, sitting down in defeat, and I wanted to cry. Why am I so stupid? I opened my mouth to speak, but Kevin’s words cut me off.
"Well, if Emily's fine with you staying here, I have no say in it."
For the first time in my life, I wished Kevin would do something, say something—anything to snap me out of my own foolishness. But I knew he wouldn't. He loves me too much to hurt me, and I always end up hurting him.
Arson looked at me, a silent message in his eyes: I won. Then he smiled, not his usual smirk, but something more... unsettling.
"Well, Emily, why don’t you show me the room where I'll be staying tonight? I’m exhausted, came straight here after work."
His voice was smooth, casual, like nothing had just happened. I nodded numbly, leading him upstairs without a second glance at Kevin, who I couldn’t bear to face.
After showing Arson the guest room, I came back downstairs, sinking onto the couch next to Kevin. My hand rested on his thigh, my heart heavy.
"Kevin, why are you mad at me? I didn’t do anything wrong. He’s leaving tomorrow. Please trust me."
Kevin sighed, his gaze meeting mine. His eyes were full of something deeper than frustration, almost as if he were pleading with me to understand.
"Emily, I’m not mad at you. I just feel like... like I’ve been shut out. Like my little sister doesn’t need me anymore."
"K-Kevin... no, it’s not like that. You mean the world to me, you know that. You’re just as important to me as Henry."
Kevin smiled softly, patting my hand. "I trust you, baby. Don’t worry about me. I’m fine."
He got up, heading towards my brother’s room. I could tell he felt insecure, but how could I explain about the guy even I dont understand myself?
As I walked upstairs, closing my door behind me, I felt a presence before hearing the door click shut. I spun around, startled, only to be met with Arson’s intense gaze. A rough hand clamped over my mouth before I could react. But instead of fear, I felt... something else.
"Scared, babygirl?" His voice was low, teasing. I stayed silent. His smirk returned as he loosened his grip, his arms wrapping around my waist like it was the most natural thing in the world. And I didn’t pull away.
"Why did you do that?" I asked, my voice shaky. "Kevin’s furious. If he stops talking to me because of you, I’ll never forgive myself. And—let go of me! Who said you could come into my room?"
Arson’s smile disappeared, his tone shifting. "Don’t raise your voice at me, babygirl." His hand left my waist, gripping my chin, forcing me to look up at him. His voice was rough, no longer playful. "I don’t take kindly to bratty behavior."
I flinched, but his touch softened, fingers brushing my skin. His mood swings left me breathless.
"Why are you doing this?" I whispered. "Why are you getting involved in my life, my family?"
"Hmm."
"Hmm? What kind of answer is that?" I huffed, frustration boiling over.
"You have a lot of questions, babygirl," he mused. "But can I ask you one?"
"What?" I tried to sound annoyed, but curiosity slipped through.
"Why do you watch me from the balcony? Do you... like me?"
My heart raced. The air between us was thick, charged. My cheeks burned, my voice trapped in my throat. His eyes held mine, daring me to lie. Slowly, I nodded, unable to break free from his gaze.
He smirked, this time the look of a man who had just won a long, silent battle. "I knew it."
Before I could react, he lifted me off the floor, my legs instinctively wrapping around his waist. He carried me to the balcony, my grip tightening on his shirt as I buried my face in his chest, feeling his low chuckle rumble through me.
"You know I’ve been aware of your little stares, right?" he whispered, his arms securing me to him.
I nodded, barely able to think.
"And your fantasies about me? I know all about them too, babygirl."
I couldn’t meet his gaze, my face flushed. "Are you mad?" I asked, my voice barely audible.
He chuckled again, softer this time. "How could I be mad at my babygirl for craving me?"
His words sent a shiver down my spine. I wanted to say something, but I was too overwhelmed.
"You’re mine, Emily. I’ve wanted you since the day you moved in. I love you, more than you could imagine."
I felt weightless in his arms, my heart soaring. But the moment was too brief. He set me down, a sudden emptiness settling in as his arms left my waist.
"What’s wrong?" I asked, confused by the sudden shift in his demeanor.
"Nothing, babygirl. Just admiring you." His smirk returned. "I’ll be back tomorrow."
"But how will you—your house is locked, isn’t it?"
He grinned mischievously. "I’ve got my keys."
And with that, he jumped off my balcony.
