**MAHI'S POV**
I stood in the center of the sunlit room, surrounded by a swirl of laughter and energy. The children at the orphanage, with their bright eyes and eager smiles, echoed my every move as I demonstrated the latest dance steps. It was a joyful chaos, filled with shuffles, twirls, and bursts of giggles. I loved these moments, where dance became a language that transcended words.
Just as i was about to teach them a new routine, my phone buzzed sharply in my pocket. I glanced at the screen—Meera’s name flashed urgently. My heart skipped; Meera rarely called unless something was urgent. I swiped to answer.
“Meera? What’s up?” My voice was steady, but her insides twisted with concern.
“Mahi! You need to come over right now. I—I can’t explain over the phone. There’s someone here, and I’m scared,” Meera’s voice trembled, her breath quickening.
“Okay, I’ll be there.” i felt a chill creep down her spine as she hung up. The children noticed my distraction, and i quickly reassured them before racing out of the orphanage, my mind racing with questions.
When i arrived at Meera’s house, a wave of confusion washed over me. Cars lined the driveway, and guards stood at attention, their expressions unreadable. What on earth was happening?
Taking a deep breath, i stepped inside, my heart pounding in my chest. The atmosphere was tense, a stark contrast to the carefree energy of the orphanage. I moved through the foyer, searching for Meera, my eyes drawn to a figure sitting with his back to me. The man was older, his greyish beard framing a face i couldn’t see.
“Mahi!” Nitya’s voice broke through my thoughts, pulling me closer. " Thank God you are here”
“I got a call from Meera. She sounded scared,” i replied, her voice low.
Nitya glanced nervously at the man before whispering, “This man suddenly came here and started asking for you seeing his behaviour and the guards outside we got scared.”
Before I could ask ask, Meera emerged from a side room, her face pale. I rushed toward her. “What’s going on? Who is that man?”
As if on cue, the man turned slightly, revealing a familiar face. My eyes widened in shock. “Abeer Uncle! Is that you?”
The tension shattered as joy replaced my confusion. I rushed forward, enveloping him in a warm embrace. “I can’t believe it! How are you?”
Abeer chuckled, his voice deep and comforting. “I’ve been well, beta. It’s been too long. How r you?” Before i could answer him.
Naina, who had been watching quietly, stepped forward. “How do you know him?”
I grinned, my worries momentarily forgotten. “He’s the owner of the Mayadevi Orphanage! I met him when I was in Mumbai volunteering there, years ago I met him there. He’s like my best buddy. We used to talk like for hours.”
Abeer smiled warmly, and i felt a rush of relief. In the chaos of the unknown, he was a familiar anchor. But as my heart began to settle, the questions in my mind returned. Why he is here?
“Mahi, we need to talk,” uncle said, his voice serious. I noticed the seriousness etched in his eyes.
With Abeer Uncle here, i felt slightly more at ease, but the tension in the room still lingered. As they gathered around, i couldn’t shake the feeling that something significant was about to unfold.
And as i looked at the people i cared about, i realized we would face whatever it was—together.
