Chapter 1: the deaths of the family

"Okay use this to turn into a mermaid, it'll let us trick them into trusting you letting us get to them" A Harry says to Jack as their submarine dives deeper and deeper into the ocean's abyss. "Are you sure this is a good idea Harry? I mean even if they'll trust me they'll see our submarine and swim as far away as possible and I mean you've seen what they've done to other submarines and the people in them..." Jack replied nervously, he had always been the coward of the two after all, "Don't worry Jackie we got given some of their crossbows the others managed to grab before being scared off, you can take one with ya" Harry assures him. Jack nods before grabbing the change stone necklace and putting it on getting ready near the exit bay for the optimal point to leave the sub.

Soon a green and blue merman is swimming alongside the submarine, coral crossbow in hand as the descend into the hidden underwater city, its tall stone towers and setting reminding Jack of a movie with how small balls of light seem to float around everywhere, they keep away from the more populated areas trying to keep the submarine hidden until eventually they spot three merpeople, one a child, perfect. If they can get the child back to the lab they'll be able to learn more about the lifecycle of these creatures and more.

A dark haze had settled across Gotham city as the family of three swam out of the theatre, Martha and Thomas Wayne swam side by there young son Bruce, they were both hatting lightly about the show there young son not paying attention as he curiously gazed at two glowing white lights a bit further away, "what are those?" Bruce asked Martha as he pointed over to the pale glowing blue lights on his fins and thrills slowly fading out as his suit is soaked with warm red blood. Martha quickly swims over to Thomas in a panic trying to stop the bleeding "no no no no no no..." Martha murmurs while Bruce is frozen with fear.

The other merman swims closer in effort to try and grab Bruce but before he can do anything Martha swims into him sending him to the wall before turning to Bruce, "sweetheart go quickly okay, get out of her. Get to the police okay, tell him a mer is working with the land dwellers, I'll keep him off your tail okay?" and Bruce does exactly that, he turns tail and swims as fast as his little tail will let him to get to the police.

By the time he gets back followed by some officers the only things that remain is his fathers jacket and his mothers pearl necklace... the bodies gone, the traitor merman gone and the land dwellers submarine gone....

It's only when his parents funeral is held does he realise the events that have transpired as Alfred lays a comforting hand on his shoulder bringing him in close as everyone else slowly leaves the scene, the only other living creatures remaining being black fish with orange outlines and piercing blue eyes... and with that his mind was made up. No one would suffer the loss of their family again. No one would lose their family to land dwellers again.

the lights with his webbed fingers, Martha gasps and Thomas quickly pulls them all into an alleyway leading to Parkrow, "come on how about we have a change of scenery" Thomas instructs to the confused Bruce but he goes along with it anyway, clearly these lights are something his parents are wary of so he will be as well and so the happy chatter returned with Martha and Thomas just a little to distracted about what's above to notice what's right in front of them.

"Freeze! Give me all your valuables and the boy!" A merman yells at them pointing a coral crossbow at the three causing them to freeze in place the white lights now upon them as well. "woah woah calm do-" Thomas is cut off with an arrow piercing his neck, the pale glowing blue lights on his fins and thrills slowly fading out as his suit is soaked with warm red blood.
