“What I Like Are Boys.”

Sheng Wang had once envisioned running into Jiang Tian at the finals for some competition, or some other summer camp.
He could imagine that scene — right down to the details of the weather, and the features of the people rushing about around them. But he couldn’t imagine what he would say. Perhaps he would call out a “Ge”, or maybe he would greet him, trying to act completely natural. Maybe…...he would start feeling sad even before he managed to speak.

Later on, after receiving news of Jiang Tian’s move overseas, he did not have the room left to even imagine anymore.

Sheng Wang devoted all of his time into competitions. He was busy as a bee, not sparing his brain a single second of freedom to relax and space out. He was studying and learning at a rate that was practically self abuse. Personally, he thought he was smart, but he was nowhere near being a genius. Trying to “touch the tiger’s butt” back then already took quite a bit of time and energy from him, and at the later parts of competitions, he felt the difficulty even more so acutely.

As compared to normal students, he could still be jokingly called “running on hacks”, but as he managed to worm his way into the cream of the entire nation’s crop, he was only so-so. No matter how he vented his feelings by studying, he only had so much energy.
Therefore, he managed to end up with a passable second class award in the province for physics, and entered the selection camp for chemistry, his specialisation. Along with how he happened to perform well that time, he entered the national training team, and acquired direct recommendation to university after all of that trouble.

The parent and the teachers were happy, but it felt like every step he took landed on thin air; no matter how he walked, he wasn’t met with solid ground. It was as though a certain feeling was pushing him to run forward continuously, not daring to stop, not daring to look around — and then his chest was suddenly met with a stripe of red, and the people at the side cheered, telling him, “Congratulations, you’ve reached the finishing line.”

Independent recruitment to all sorts of universities always came pouring as a group, each top school all recruiting the top students on their own accords. Class A had a great performance overall during competitions this year. Everyone went all over the place to deliver their application material, their certificates in hand. Nearly everyone had gotten a few selection places.

Gao Tianyang only possessed a single certificate, neither was its level particularly high. During that time, he constantly joked “I’m about to become the only left-behind children” to the point that Sheng Wang couldn’t bear to see it anymore. He searched all over the internet on his laptop for several days, and somehow managed to find a few famous schools with suitable conditions. He helped Gao Tianyang edit the essay as well as English material needed for preliminary application. They handed it up, and he was unexpectedly accepted.

For that entire month, Gao Tianyang was this close to giving Sheng Wang three loud kowtows each day, and so he also covered his breakfast. Old Gao was more obtuse than 179°; he did not put too much thought into his actions. He would constantly bring Sheng Wang whatever he personally found delicious. After 20+ days of burgers and cola straight, Sheng Wang ate so much that he was automatically full the moment he even saw him.

At the end of the month, this idiot had finally realised that Sheng Wang was sick of the food, and so he went back to Chinese cuisine. He tried his best to recall the breakfast Sheng Wang had eaten before, and went to queue up in the cafeteria bright and early in the morning in a truly unprecedented move. He entered the classroom with beancurd, an egg, and a red can of milk……
And then for that entire day, other than the “thank you” upon receiving the breakfast, Sheng Wang had never spoken another word since.
