The morning sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating Isabella's apartment in a warm glow. Today was the day Ian would return. Excitement mingled with nerves as she paced the living room, her heart fluttering with anticipation and a hint of anxiety. Would everything feel the same? Could they pick up where they left off, or had the distance altered their connection irreparably?

She glanced at the teddy bear sitting on her couch, its soft fur a comforting reminder of Ian's affection during his absence. It felt like an anchor amidst her swirling emotions, a piece of him that brought her solace. With a determined breath, she tidied the apartment, wanting everything to be perfect for his return. Each item she straightened seemed to pulse with her anticipation—the vibrant throw pillows, the neatly arranged books, the carefully set dining table—all transformed into symbols of her longing.

As the hours dragged on, she found herself distracted by a whirlwind of thoughts. The surprise Ian had mentioned loomed large in her mind. What could it be? A gift? A romantic gesture? Or perhaps it was something deeper, a promise to bridge the gap that had formed between them.

When the clock finally struck five, a rush of anticipation surged through her. She busied herself in the kitchen, preparing a small dinner, the aroma of her favourite pasta filling the air. As she set the table, she could almost taste the love she poured into every dish, hoping it would convey her feelings for Ian. The clink of dishes echoed in the otherwise quiet apartment, a soothing sound that briefly chased away her nerves.

Just as she plated the food, her phone buzzed. It was a message from Ian: On my way! Can't wait to see you!

A wave of joy washed over her, dispelling the last remnants of uncertainty. She quickly finished setting the table and took a moment to compose herself, glancing in the mirror to smooth down her hair. There was a hint of flush in her cheeks, a reflection of her excitement.

When the doorbell rang, Isabella's heart raced. She opened the door to find Ian standing there, a bright smile lighting up his face, his presence radiating warmth and familiarity. He looked the same, yet somehow different—his eyes sparkled with a newfound intensity, a hint of weariness beneath the surface that tugged at her heart.

"Bella," he breathed, stepping inside and pulling her into a tight embrace. The familiar scent of his cologne enveloped her, and she melted against him, feeling the weight of the past week lift away, replaced by the warmth of his arms.

"I missed you," she whispered, her voice muffled against his shoulder, filled with the raw emotion she had held back for too long.

"I missed you too," he replied, pulling back to look at her. "You look beautiful."

"Thanks, you too," she said, noticing the way his hair had grown a little longer, framing his face. "How was the trip?"

"Busy," he chuckled, raking a hand through his hair. "Meetings were piling up, but it was worth it. I've got something special for you."

Isabella felt her heart skip at the thought. "What is it?" she asked, curiosity sparking in her eyes.

"Patience, Bella," he teased, an impish grin lighting up his face. "First, let's eat. I'm starving!"

They settled down at the table, the warm light from the candles casting a cozy glow around them. Laughter and conversation flowed easily between them as Ian shared stories from his trip—the intense business meetings, late-night dinners filled with laughter, and breathtaking sights he had seen during his free time. Isabella listened, her heart swelling with affection as she watched him animatedly recount his experiences, his eyes sparkling as he spoke.

"I even tried this spicy street food that nearly made me cry!" he exclaimed, his eyes wide with mock horror. "But it was worth it; the flavour was incredible!"
