"You are avoiding me, and I cannot figure out why?" Aery's voice rang through the air, reaching Alicent, who stood looking over the balcony that surrounded the entire castle on the roof.
"I am not avoiding you, my prince," Alicent argued softly, turning to face him, giving a perfected curtsy, making him release an annoyed groan.
"Yes, you are Alicent; you just curtsied and called me Prince. Did I do something to cause this sudden change?" He asked, walking up to her, standing just a mere foot away, her breath catching at how close they were.
"You did nothing, Aerys," she assured him, lacing her hands together and picking at the skin.
"Then is it my sister? I love her dearly, but I am well aware that she is not always the best of friends to you," he stated, grabbing her hands to stop her from hurting herself. He slowly rubbed his thumb over her knuckles, grounding himself.
"Yes and no. She found out I was writing to you and became upset with me and said some hurtful things about how you would never see me as anyone other than your sister's friend, and then you did not reply to my latest letter, and I thought perhaps I overstepped with what I had written at the end or that she may have been correct." She admitted looking at the ground, getting embarrassed as she recalled the argument between herself and Rhaenyra. She closed her eyes, listening to him chuckle a noise that made her belly flutter and her heart warm.
"You did not overstep Alicent, I assure you, and I happen to like it when you call yourself mine, and please ignore Rhaenyra because, well, Alicent, I see you as so much more than Rhaenyra's friend or Daeron's young sister; you are my friend and someone I care so much about, and the few mere hours of you avoiding me have killed me, so never do that again."
"You are very dramatic, Aerys; are you aware of that?" She joked, blushing as she looked up at him. Their height difference was much more noticeable now that her head reached his chest and shoulders. "You have gotten taller," she noted much to his amusement.
"Yes, I have, and I bring you a gift," he stated, pulling a small box out of his pocket, ignoring her scoff and eye roll.
"Aerys, I have no room in my compartments, as it is full of every other gift you have gifted to me."
"Then you shall have another room," Aerys countered with a shrug, smiling at her giggle. He loved her laugh so free, light, and sweet.
"You cannot. I am only a lady, Aerys. I do to get such luxuries. The ladies of court already speak ill of me and of our friendship and the continuous gifts you give.," Alicent argued, shaking her head quickly. She already had a chamber much larger than she should with her status, and she had another room that held her more extravagant gifts and hobby items, like the golden harp he gifted her on her tenth and third name day, a harp fit for a queen the actual Queen Aemma had told her with a knowing smile.
"Ignore the ladies their jealous cunts. I will shower you with gifts every day if I must now take the damn thing," he demanded, handing her the small box as she sighed in defeat, opening it and gasping at the beautiful ring inside.
