They had met at Maddies funeral. Danny had been significantly younger, thirteen. Vlad had been distraught, sobbing endlessly before Danny approached him.

"Dad told me you were friends with mom in college."

Vlad didn't look at Danny, his face red and blotchy from crying.

"That's true."

Danny dropped a rose on the coffin.

"Maddie was an amazing woman."

Vlad finally looked at Danny, "she made me your godfather. Did you know that?"

Danny nodded, "dad mentioned it. He really likes you."

Vlad put his hands on Dannys shoulders, "I'm here for Daniel. Anytime."

"Thank you."

"Don't mention it, my boy."

Vlad stopped by from time to time, and he would call Danny, ask about school, his day.

Then Danny had his accident. Vlad sort of changed his view on Jack after that, said things about him, called him an unreliable father. That Danny deserved better. Danny would get mad at him every time.

Vlad became the most reliable adult in his life. The accident made them closer, not because Vlad knew exactly what he was going through. Vlad only got mild contamination and a very bad case of ecto-acne where-in Danny died halfway. Vlad was the only one Danny could talk to about his unique problems.

So when he found out Danny had skipped an entire week of school, he had questions.

"Yes, I'm fine, vlad. I had a run-in with my fathers ecto.weopen and couldn't hold my human form for very long. I kept facing through everything, so I took a week off to fix it."

Vlads face turned into a frown, "Daniel, i hope you would tell me if you need anything. If you are ever in need of my assistance, you must tell me, "

Danny forced a chuckle, "All right, Vlad. I promise." He didn't want to lie, but this was something he could do on his own. There is no need to trouble anybody else.

Vlad liked being called Vladimir, but he liked Danny calling him Vlad even more because if he closed his eyes and pictured the word in his head as Danny said it, it almost sounded like dad.

Danny had taken a week off school under the guiess of being sick. Nobody at school questioned it because nobody cared. Except Lancer, who made sure to send his assignments to the house through the mail.

Not that Danny had the time to do it. He was too busy mapping out the ghost zone as best he could when the islands kept shifting. Danny was also re-working the ecto- detector so it could find humans. Jack had to be the only human in the zone, and as long as Danny had it programmed according to his fathers DNA, it would work.

Danny grabbed his pack and headed back into the zone. "Boo-merang, find Jack Fenton," Danny voice commanded into the invention before throwing it.

Danny zipped after it. Its speed was on par to a hummingbird, zipping this way and that. The boo-merang entered a small island with a brick building, devoid of windows.

Danny smashed his face into said building when he had no time to stop, accidentally becoming human again in the process. The boo-mernag passed through the building. Danny stood up, placing a hand on the building for support and falling through the building.

"It's like the opposite of the human side of the world," Danny remarked. From what Danny could see, this place resembled a prison for ghosts.

"I wonder if my dad is in here," Danny muttered. He snuck around, listening for anything when he caught snippets of a conversation.

"I'll never talk, you slimey ecto for brains, good for nothing ghost!" Yep, definitely his dad.

"Just tell me where the ghost boy is. I know he's been using your lab." It was a ghost in all white, kinda looked like a sheriff.

Danny bit his lip. He didn't have the right stuff for a confrontation with this guy. He had seen all the trapped ghosts on his way to his dad. This ghodt must've been an expert at catching other ghosts. He was kind of reminded of Skulker but a more professional version.

As much as he hated to do this, he would have to go back and get the right equipment. Jack would have to wait.

"I'm sorry, dad, just hang on a little longer."

Danny turned to fly away when something medal struck him in the back of the head.

"Ow dammit, what?"
The boo-merang had returned to him. Danny grabbed it and stuffed it inside his backpack.

"Ancients, every freaking time!" Danny muttered, rubbing the back of his head.

Danny flew away from Walkers prison island and back to the portal, navigating with the map and his senses.

When he finally got to the lab, his limbs felt heavy and he could barely keep his eyes open.

"Can't sleep now," he muttered from the floor, "things to do..."

It was a fruitless battle. His phantom and human side were both low on energy, Danny didn't have a choice and passed out on the cool tile of the lab floor.

'Knock, Knock, Knock'.... 'Knock, Knock, Knock'....

'Ding, dong'.... 'ding, dong, ding, dong, ding dong'...

"Hello?"...

"Mister Jack Fenton?"...
