He had returned, hot and sweaty after a successful hunt. The hound came joyfully to greet his master, but the master was alarmed when the hound came to greet him because the hound was covered in ruby red blood.

The master went on a hunt, but he never went with Gelert 'The Faithful Hound' who was unaccountably absent from the hunt.

The now frantic master plunged his hunting sword into the unexpected/unexacting hound's side thinking the blood soaked hound had killed his only heir.

The hounds dying yell was immediately answered by a child's cry, ripping through the suspenseful atmosphere. The prince searched and discovered his boy surprisingly unharmed.

One thing that the prince saw out the corner of his eye was a mighty wolf, which Gelert had slain.
The Prince was now filled with regret and remorse, it is Said that the prince never smiled again after the incident. The prince burried The Faithful Hound' Gelert here. The spot is called BeddGelert.
