"You know Ryanne... They probably only made me Susan because I can't dance!" I laughed awkwardly, trying to fill the quiet between us.
"Haha, yeah." Ryanne kept her eyes on her path straight ahead.
More silence.
She's upset. I mean, who can blame her? I've only been in one musical and she's been in how many? I'm a rookie and I took a part that had her name on it, I would be upset too. I just hope she isn't upset at me.
"KATRINA OH MY GOD CONGRATULATIONS!!!" Alana ran towards me with open arms, wrapping me in a big hug, "I am so happy you got the part!! You're going to make an amazing Susan Waverly!!"
Ryanne glanced behind her shoulder, but kept moving.
"Thanks Alana! I'm excited too!! You did awesome at your audition, though. Your voice is amazing! But I should get going, don't want to be late for Bella Voce! See you at lunch!!" I quickly parted ways with Alana and started to jog to catch up with Ryanne but I stopped myself in the middle of the hallway.
She needs her space. If she wanted me to walk with her, she would have waited for me.
Kimberly saw me in the hall and flagged me down, "Oh my gosh, I heard you got a part in the musical! That's awesome! I mean, this is only your second musical, right?"
"Huh? Oh. Yeah. It's not that big of a deal, to be honest." I played down my excitement, mostly because I didn't want to seem like a brat.
"Are you ok? I thought that you would be screaming for joy once you found out." Kimberly questioned me, looking into my eyes.
"Yeah. I'm fine. Guess I'm just tired or something. I'm sure my excitement will kick in later or when I get home." I scratched my head and pretended to look busy with my hands.
"O-ok. Yeah. Well, congrats." Kimberly shot me a considered look from the corner of her eye and walked away.
I sighed and walked quietly to my next class. It was odd, not being able to talk to Ryanne the walk there. It seemed as though our friendship had only grown strong after the whole Adam incident, so the fact that she seemed so upset worried me.
"OW! Gah, I'm so sorry," while I was busy thinking, I forgot to watch where I was going. Because of that, I ran straight into Lyle, who was now a freshman and wearing a black football jersey.
"Oh. Hey Katrina. You look really nice." Lyle complimented me with a disgusting smirk on his face.
"God, save it. I really don't need this today." I felt my face scrunch up in disgust. Ever since the whole Adam thing, I could not stand men. To me, they were all sly dogs with an agenda and I didn't want to be part of their stupid plans.
"Wow. What's got your panties in a bunch? Let me guess, it's that time of the month?" Lyle smirked down at me again. He must have grown, or I shrank because he was almost passing 6ft.
"Lyle, as much as I love making small talk with all of my exes, I have to get to class." I started walking towards my class when Lyle grabbed my wrist and pulled me around to face him.
"Then why don't you text me? I really want to catch up." At first, I thought he was trying to be sarcastic, but then I saw the look on his face and froze up.
He was serious! Huh.
"Maybe I will. Don't know." I quickly tried to cover up the fact that I noticed his expression moments ago.
"So you'll think about it?" Lyles face lit up, and I could tell he tried to tone it back.
"Yeah. Sure. Whatever." I sighed internally. Here we go again.
"Awesome!"
