Our Hypocrisy

Chapter 4

Natalie Zumen her day through her work was indeed filled with regrets of her choice of staying up late. So the second the time hit 2pm she couldn't help but be relieved to clocking out. After walking out the building did she hear a familiar voice behind her "wait up Nat!" she turns around seeing her coworker Rose she caught her breath. "I-I-god you're fast" she then voiced making Natalie laugh. "Oliver wanted me to tell you he'll give you a ride home" Natalie eyes widen at the mention of Oliver in fact she had forgotten all about him since Jacob and her sister showed up. Oliver was an older man in her job a part of her felt guilty when she began to like him a while back do to there age gap, he was 15 years older then her. Natalie ran her hand through her hair. "He doesn't have to I was going to take the bus-" Rose immediately waves her hands "oh sweetie take the ride, he wants to make sure you make it home safe" Natalie eyes glance to the side this was the first time he's offered her a ride maybe it was because he noticed her tired look. "I'll take that as a yes" Rose then sings out turning around walking back to the building. Natalie nibbles at her bottom lip letting out a nervous laugh reminding her self it's just a car ride.

She stood outside the building for a while it wasn't long that he walked out he smiled at her pointing to his car parked upfront "I was surprised when Rose told me you said yes" he then admits that charming smile on his face that would make her heart flutter. She looks away patting the top of her head fixing her hair down laughing lightly "thanks for the offer and the ride" she then speaks awkwardly not knowing what to say. He opens the passenger door to her "no problem" he then says she then thanks him again getting in the car, once the door shuts she begins to buckle up fixing the belt bellow her belly she felt slightly self conscious laying her arms over her stomach he then gets into the driver seat. Silence fell and all you can hear is him moveing around as he buckled himself the sound of his sweater rustling. He was humming to fill the silence she turns her head to face him to tell him her address. Seeing him turn his head back as he reverses his eyes glancing into hers making her face forward fiddling with her fingers she then hears him speak he faces forward now turning the steering wheel. " Should we get something to eat before I take you home, I know I can eat" He then voiced trying to fill the silence his fingers tapped the steering wheel. she was about to say no thank you  but he beat her to it. "Well just go thru the drive thru" he then points over to a Jack in the box. She couldn't reject especially when she thought how this might be his routine and she nods. "Oh okay" she then said looking out the window  silence fell on them. He then speaks up to fill the awkwardness "How have you been" he then asked stopping behind a car in the drive thru four cars ahead of them. Natalie glancing over to him  her mind going to Jacob and then to her sister "good" he gives her a soft smile seeing the way her lips turned up into a smile. She layes her head back against the head rest "and you?" She said  to which he let out a low whistle "awesome" he then said her brow raised he drives forward. "Cool" she then said not knowing how to respond to that. He glances over to her then looks ahead "what combo do you want?" She picks the cheapest one as she didn't have much money on her. He turns to her "you sure?" She nods "what do you want to drink?" She immediately answers "sprite please" he then moves foward making the orders he got a more expensive meal and jalapeño poppers he then turns to her "curly fries?" She nods he then continues ordering After being told the price he thanks them and moves forward. He reaches into his pocket with his free hand. Natalie reaches into her pocket to which he immediately noticed "I'll pay for both of our meals" he then says she doesn't listen and puts the cash in his pocket a bit more then it was  he then reaches into his pocket "no really it's okay"  he then noticed she gave him more. He then holds it out to her "this is way to much" she wave her hands rejecting the money. "Keep it, it's a thanks for the ride" he slightly frowns he try's to still give it to her but she doesn't grab it with a sigh he accepts defeat. "Thanks" he said a small smile then puts it back into his pocket.
