Day 2 surviving in my own house,I asked my maid to bring my food to my room. The quest forced us to cook something I've never eaten before, over-flavored chicken and loaded with too many herbs. I had to ask my maid to wash the chicken once, just so I could eat it comfortably.
I keep telling myself to just think of them as stray dogs, barking at leaves falling, but it's hard. Our family is already going through a tough time with Felis's condition, and now these people show up at our house.
I called my maid and asked her to tell my parents that I'm heading to the village. Just hearing the guests's voices is already testing my patience to the limit.
I jumped over the wall, avoiding the front yard where the guests's children were playing. Magic certainly makes life more convenient. I headed to the village park and sat on a bench, the sound of the fountain's splashes calm me down. The lively atmosphere of the village gradually lifted my mood.
Then, I spotted a child wearing a robe, running frantically, followed by three adults. My immediate thought was child kidnapping. I decided to follow them silently, again, magic making things easier. Eventually, the child was cornered at a dead-end alley.
"Finally, we caught you, you little bastard," one of the pursuers snarled.
"Go away! I don't have anything with me!" the kid yelled back, clearly scared.
Isn't this straight out of a main character's backstory? For now, I decided to observe from the behind.
"Did she send you to kill me?" the child asked.
"If she did, what are you going to do about it? You can't defeat us all. We know your power," one of the adults taunted.
Ah, so this kid is important. Probably some chosen one with a tragic past. I figured plot armor would save him, so there was no need for me to get involved. But then..
"Arghh!"
The kid had just been stabbed in the abdomen. Wait, isn't this the part where the main character unlocks some secret power?
Without hesitating, I cast a fireball behind the kidnappers, burning them alive in an instant. I didn't flinch as they screamed, their bodies turning to ash. The child, clutching his bleeding abdomen, looked at me in disbelief. I used wind magic to scatter the remains of the attackers.
"What are you? Tell me who you are, and I'll leave you alive" I said, my voice cold.
"Who are you? How can you use magic from that far away?" the kid asked, wide-eyed.
"Seems like you've forgotten your place, I just saved your life, and you dare question me? I could've killed them all without lifting a finger—you should know what that means."
I purposely acted arrogant and intimidating. I didn't want him to become curious about me. In these cliché shoujo novels, the male lead always ends up getting attached to the random extra that helps him.
"My name is Alex Nortis, the third son of Duke Nortis," he said, clutching his stomach in pain.
"Nortis? The Dukedom in the northern part of the continent?" I asked, narrowing my eyes.
"Yeah"
"Fine," I replied with a sigh. "I'll call a guard for you. I don't care why you ran away, but I'll send you back. If you die in this land, it'll tarnish our reputation with the Duke. Besides, the north is far from here. Why on earth are you even in this area?"
"Treasure!" Alex blurted out. "I had a dream about an ancestor of mine. He gave me a treasure map. It leads to a cave here, in this land."
I raised an eyebrow. "Give me the treasure map, and I'll fetch it for you."
"Can't!" he protested. "The door to the treasure can only be opened by a descendant of the Nortis family!"
I sighed again. Walking over to him, I pull the knife on his abdomen and use magic to cauterize his wound. He is screaming, but I felt no guilt. I'd already saved his life, hadn't I? I had no healing magic, and no money for potions either.
"Get up and walk. The cave can't be far from here, right?"
"Y-yeah," Alex stammered, still wincing from the pain.
He limped forward, leading the way. I followed, keeping my guard up as we moved through the forest. The thought of a dragon lurking nearby still sent chills down my spine. My grandfather always said the dragon wouldn't emerge from its cave for another thousand years, but the fear remained.
Eventually, we found the cave. Alex entered first, and I followed closely behind. It wasn't deep, and luckily, there were no traps or monsters. After a short while, we arrived at a large door. Alex pressed his bloody hand against it, and the door creaked open.
Inside, sitting in the center of the room, was a magnificent sword. While Alex's attention was completely fixed on it, I turned my gaze to the wall where a cluster of crystals shimmered. Ignoring him, I began plucking the crystals from the wall, one by one, while Alex remained focused on the sword.
Alex began to pulling the sword and the crystal i collected start disintegrating one by one into thin air, i then watch the sword slowly pulled out, the wind began spiralling to the sword, the dust and debris started flying, i then cast a magic shield around me.
the wind become stronger, his robe started flying away revealed his black hair and onyx colored eyes, this scene look more dramatic than in movies, but this took to long, i think the sky already turn orange, i decided to leave the cave.
Well let him think his own way to home safely
