Sweetest Thing | Kwon Soonyoung

Chapter 01

"We're almost there." Informed the husband to his wife. They both just got married today and soon after the wedding ceremony was over, they headed back to his apartment. It was just a simple wedding ceremony attended by only close family members, but at least everything went well.

Kwon Soonyoung and Song Yugyeong got married not because it was arranged and not because it was out of love either.

Yugyeong is still a university student. Her parents passed away a few weeks ago and having no one to take care of her, her relatives thinks it's best if she get married, at least her husband is there to look after her.

Soonyoung is a clerk in a small company which you can tell that they didn't pay him high enough. But just enough for him to survive. Being a single 28 year old grown up man, her mom worried about him and until one day, one of Yugyeong's aunt introduced Yugyeong to his mom.

Well, that's how it happened.

Soonyoung didn't really think of it as a problem, at least his mom is happy with her own choice of daughter in law. While Yugyeong on the other side, was forced by her aunts saying no one's gonna take care of her and look after her. She was kicked out of the apartment where she used to live with her parents and had to life with her married aunt who got two kids to take care of.

It's not that her aunt isn't welcoming her to live with her, but their financial situation isn't enough to support another family member. That's why, her aunt gave her the idea to get married. Having no desire to fight back, well Yugyeong decided to agree.

Arriving at the apartment where Soonyoung lives, Yugyeong stared at the place in awe. Well, it wasn't a big apartment but just nice for two people to live in. Yugyeong stepped in and there's this sliding door, she opened revealing a laundry and also a closet room, it wasn't that big.

"Are you looking for a bedroom?" He asked.

"Huh?" Yugyeong turned to look at him.

"If you're looking for a bedroom, there's only one here." Said Soonyoung as he opened the door of the bedroom. Slowly, Yugyeong went to the pointed room to check and there's only one queen sized bed.

"This is the toilet." He pointed his finger to the door next to the bedroom.

Seeing her blank face expression, Soonyoung turned worried.

"I will sleep on the sofa, don't worry." He said as he scratched the back of his head while his other hand pointed the sofa on the small living room.

She turned to look at him.

"But this is your house. I will sleep on the sofa." She refused.

"It's okay, it's really not comfortable for you. You should sleep on the bed. I usually stayed up late doing my works so it's not a big deal to me." He convincingly told her.

"Thank you, Soonyoung ssi." She bowed.

Soonyoung helped her to bring her belongings to the closet room where she starts to unpacking her stuffs.

"You can use the other half of the space here, I don't have much clothes anyways." He said and proceeds to move his stuffs to leave enough space for her clothes and all.

While Yugyeong is still busy with unpacking her stuffs, Soonyoung have changed from his suit to a more comfy outfit. He noticed that Yugyeong is almost done and that's when he knocked the door.

"Are you hungry? I realized that you didn't eat much earlier. I'll cook us dinner." He was about to walk away when suddenly,

"No! Wait!" She rushed and grabbed his arm, startling him.

"I-I will cook dinner for us." She said, not even looking to his eyes.

"You should go get changed to something comfortable and get a little rest, you can cook us a meal maybe tomorrow?" He raised an eyebrow, for a moment she could feel her cheeks getting hot. And she agreed, she went to bedroom to get changed.

After changing to a more comfortable clothes, Yugyeong went out of the bedroom and went to the open kitchen and took a seat. He is still busy cooking. In her mind, Soonyoung have this cute baby face yet also a handsome and mature kind of look and it seems like he's capable to do a lot of things but him cooking is something that she didn't expect.

"I'm not really that good in cooking, but my friend Mingyu is and I often watched him cook before so that's how I learned cooking." He said with a sheepish smile.

"Thank you Soonyoung-ssi, I will enjoy the meal." She smiled.

"Yugyeong."

"Yes?"

"You can just call me Soonyoung, we don't have to be so formal with each other." It's clear that he's actually shy to say it, but Yugyeong understood that.

"Okay, Soonyoung."

It was silence after that. Before getting married, both of them only met each other for two times. First when they were introduced to each other by Soonyoung's mom and Yugyeong's aunt and the second was when they have to discuss about their simple wedding, that's it.

This is only their third met.

"I didn't know why you just easily agreed with everything, but thank you." She said, shattering the silence.

"My mom's been nagging at me because I've been single for a very long time. But I didn't mean that I'm forced to marry you. I heard your story and I just thought that I wanted to take care of you. But that doesn't mean I married you because of sympathy either." His voice trailed off as he turned his gaze away.

"Then, because of what?" She furrowed her eyebrows.

"Because you just seems like a nice girl to me. And my mom even likes you. If my mom likes you then I believe that you're the right choice." He ended up giving her a little shy smile.

"You know.. We don't have to be in love in order to get married. Love can happen after marriage too. It might take a little longer or it might happen unexpectedly, we never know." Soonyoung's words reached her heart and Yugyeong could feel her heart beating fast.

"I just wanted you to live comfortably, with enough foods and any other things that you might need." He added.

"I work in a small company and you know my pay isn't really that high. But I'll try my best to provide enough food for you. And whatever that you wanna do you know I'll give you all of my support." He ended his remark with a sweet and gentle like smile, it melts her heart.

"Thank you, Soonyoung."

"I didn't mean to force you to love me, anything could happen, whether we expect it or not. I just don't want us to be awkward now that we live together as a husband and wife." He again, gave her his endearing smile.

"I understand. And you too, Soonyoung, anything that you wanna do in your life you have my support too." Yugyeong smiled as she squeezed his hand. His eyes nailed to their hands and he could feel his heart beating faster as his cheeks turned red.
