Author's POV
It had been a week since their visit to the market. Y/N had been busy with preparations for the upcoming function, spending time with the king as part of her political training.
Meanwhile, Taehyung immersed himself in palace life, learning horse riding, practicing with his sword, and trying a variety of Indian dishes. He found joy in these activities but secretly stole glances at Y/N whenever she was with her father or overseeing the preparations.
He admired her from afar, captivated by her determination and grace, wishing he could share more moments like the one they had behind the stall. As the days passed, he felt a growing desire to express his feelings, even as he remained hidden in the shadows of the bustling palace.
It was evening, and Y/N was finally free after a long day. She sat by the small lake in the palace, lost in her thoughts as she gazed at her own reflection in the water.
Tae had finished his sword practice for the day and stepped out of his chamber after taking a shower. He was admiring the birds in the sky when his eyes fell on Y/N sitting by the lake. He smiled and made his way toward her.
"What are you doing here?" he asked, walking toward her.
Y/N's hand flew to her heart, startled by his sudden appearance. He offered a warm smile. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. So, what brings you out here?"
She took a breath, relaxing. "I was just unwinding after a long day. I'm sorry I couldn't keep you company this week; I was busy with preparations, and Babasa wanted to discuss something important. It must be tough for you, adjusting to a new place and new people. The future seems so uncertain, especially with our limited understanding of your culture."
Tae nodded. "It's okay. I'm actually enjoying my time here—trying new activities and the food is incredible! But I do miss my family and friends," he admitted, his smile tinged with sadness.
Y/N reached out, offering him a reassuring smile. "We'll figure it out together. I promise."
Tae's expression softened. "That day you wanted to tell me something, but Radha interrupted."
Y/N looked down, her cheeks warming. After a moment of hesitation, she took a deep breath. "I've thought a lot about it, and now I'm sure of my feelings." She met his gaze, her heart racing as she took his hands in hers. "It's been a month since we met, and maybe it's too soon, but when you're around, my heart races in the best way. Just thinking of you brings a smile to my face. I want to trust you completely. I know I might be selfish, but I don't want to find a way to send you back. I want to spend my life with you by my side, forever. Taehyung, I think I've fallen for you."
A radiant smile broke across Tae's face as he gently caressed the back of her hand with his thumb. "I'm so glad to hear you say that. I felt the same way from the moment I first saw you. I'd be lying if I said it was when I saw you dancing in the hall—I actually saw you in a video on my phone from the future, and I was mesmerized by your bravery and beauty. You're going to be an amazing queen. I love you, Princess Y/N."
Y/N wrapped her arms around him, feeling a rush of warmth. As a few tears slipped down her cheeks, she couldn't shake the thought that someday, she would have to say goodbye—that he would have to return to his life. But in this moment, all that mattered was the connection they shared.
They pulled away, and Tae gently wiped her tears, kissing her eyelids softly. Y/N looked at him, her eyes glistening, and thought, I'm sorry, Tae. She clutched the pocket of her lehenga, where a small pouch from her fortune teller lay—an object meant to help him return to the future.
"What's wrong, Y/N?" Tae asked, cupping her cheeks. She shook her head, looking down, unable to meet his gaze.
He lifted her chin, making her look into his eyes. With a comforting smile, he pulled her close to his heart, whispering, "It's okay. Everything will be okay. I'm here with you." He pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead, wrapping her in warmth and reassurance.
