Thunder outside growled like an angry Beartic as rain splashed against the giant wall-spanning windows of the Pokemon Centre. Even from inside, you could just sense the biting cold that made your spine shiver, but, even so, it made you thank the hospitality of the Pokemon Centre. Though the glass was steamed up, it was still possible to make out the barren roads that lay below. No one was outside, not a soul, not even the occasional Patrat hopped across the pavement. You'd have to be mad to be out in this terrible weather. Not to mention it was almost 11 o'clock at night in late November.

You wished the rain would stop. Normally, it wasn't that bad, but this year, autumn's rain had actually gone down as some of the worst to hit Unova in donkey's years. And Driftveil city and you were seeing the worst of it.

Curled up like a burrito with your duvet, you lay on your side, using a row of seats next to a table as a substitute bed. It wasn't wonderfully comfortable, but that didn't matter. You were so tired you could've slept on a solid rock for all you cared.

You'd been out all day on the docks with your friends and your Pokemon during a short period whilst the rain had stopped, though the skies were still grey. The dockside was slippery, but everyone was careful not to trip. You threw stones, clambered under the bridges, watched the boats go in and out, at one point one of your friends said they could've sworn they'd seen a shiny Magikarp out at sea, but Unova was known for its strange lack of Magikarp. It was one of the only countries with seas that didn't house such a common fish Pokemon. In fact, there was barely any fish Pokemon out at sea today. The rain must've drove them off. What a shame. It was always fun to watch your Dewott and your friend's water types chase fish Pokemon out at sea, even if they weren't very good.

You turned your head to see Dewott resting underneath the table, curled up by its pokeball. The little fellow had its mouth half open, its chest rising and falling as it cuddled up in a little ball like a cat. Dewott had been with you for as long as you could remember; it was your closest friend, even closer than some people. You'd had it since it was a tiny Oshawott. It wasn't exactly the Pokemon you'd always wanted, but when it arrived to you on your birthday, there was no way you could turn down the little guy.

But then of course, on the dockside, the rain came again. You and your friends scrambled back to Driftveil, but the rain was so heavy by the time you reached the Pokemon Centre there was no way you could get home. Water was beginning to flood the streets. They had to surround the door of the Pokemon Centre with paper sheets.

You rang home to find that your dad was the only one in the house. Your mum was still in Castelia city as she couldn't get home from work. Apparently, the Pokemon Centre there was packed - adults, children, and pokemon all pushing for a place to sleep. Your mum had said you were lucky, and you had to agree.

Driftveil was a big place, but not nearly as big as Castelia. There was barely anyone in the Driftveil Pokemon Centre, as most of the houses in the city were very nearby. All of your friends lived in this area, with parents who all worked at the city docks. But you, on the other hand, lived on the eastern outskirts of the city in a little bungalow with your stay-at-home dad and mum who worked in Castelia city.

Suddenly, the doors swing open. You pull your blanket to your face timidly, hearing the sound of the rain increase and then decrease again as footsteps echo. The door slams as someone calls out "Hello?" Their voice sounds like it's been frozen by the very coldness of the outside. You sit up. 'Who's there?' You think curiously, 'Should I go and look? ...Nah, Nurse Joy will probably sort it out.'

But as you go to lie back down, you hear the frozen voice again.

"Hello? Nurse Joy?" They say through chattering teeth, "Please, is anyone here?"
