Deepika sits upright in her chair, her heart racing as she wipes the sweat from her brow. The nightmare still clings to her like a fog, and she glances at Alan, who is asleep, his face calm and serene.
She brushes her fingers through her hair, trying to calm her frayed nerves.
The hospital room is sterile and quiet, but the weight of her fear feels suffocating.
“Get a grip,”
she mutters to herself, standing up and moving toward the window.
She opens the curtains, allowing the harsh light of the morning sun to pour in, dispelling some of the shadows from her mind.
Outside, life continues as usual, oblivious to the chaos surrounding them.
Just then, a knock sounds at the door, interrupting her thoughts.
A nurse enters, clipboard in hand.
“Good morning, Deepika. How are you feeling today?”
she asks cheerfully, though her smile falters slightly upon seeing Deepika’s distressed expression.
“I—I’m okay, just a bit shaken,”
Deepika replies, forcing a smile.
“Is Alan going to be okay?”
The nurse nods, glancing at Alan.
“He’s stable. The doctors are monitoring his progress closely. I’m sure he’ll be up and about soon.”
Deepika exhales, relief washing over her.
“Thank you. Can I stay a little longer?”
“Of course,”
the nurse says before leaving the room, her footsteps echoing in the hallway.
Deepika pulls a chair closer to Alan’s bed, her fingers brushing against his.
“I wish you would wake up,”
she whispers, her voice breaking.
“There’s so much going on… so many things I need to tell you.”
As she sits there, her mind drifts back to the night of the incident.
The image of the masked man looming over her, the glint of the knife in the rain, fills her with dread.
"What had happened to Amanda? Was the masked man connected to the murders?"
"The thought sends a shiver down her spine. She needs to find answers—not just for herself, but for Alan and Amanda."
Meanwhile, at the headquarters, Sasaki is reviewing the security footage again, this time focusing on the masked figure.
The footage is grainy and indistinct, but he knows they’re on the right track.
