Two weeks later, Amélie found herself stepping off a plane in Rome. The city greeted her with its golden light and ancient ruins, and as soon as she saw Ethan waiting at the arrival gate, she felt her heart leap.

The reunion was sweeter than she had imagined. They embraced, holding each other tight as though to make up for every moment they had spent apart. Ethan’s kiss was as familiar as ever, yet it carried a new intensity, as though being in a different city only deepened their bond.

For the next few days, they wandered through the streets of Rome together, marveling at the Colosseum, the Vatican, and the hidden piazzas tucked away from the main roads. They dined under the stars, sipping wine and sharing laughter as if they had never been apart.

On her last night in Rome, as they sat on a terrace overlooking the city, Ethan took her hand. “I’ve been thinking a lot while I’ve been here, about life and love and the future. And I realized something, Amélie. I don’t care where we are, as long as I’m with you.”

Amélie looked at him, her heart full. “I feel the same way,” she whispered. “I don’t want to be apart anymore. We can make this work, no matter where we are.”

Ethan smiled, his eyes full of love. “So what do you say we stop worrying about where we’ll be in a few months or a few years? Let’s just be together, here and now, and see where life takes us.”

She nodded, tears of happiness filling her eyes. “I’m ready,” she said. “For whatever comes next, I’m ready"
