Chapter 6: The Reckoning

Di atmosphere in di safe house is thick with tension as mi wait for Jahmiel’s arrival. Bullet stands at di window, scanning di street outside, while mi try fi steady mi racing heart. Di quiet is oppressive, an every second feels like a lifetime. Mi can’t shake di feeling dat dis could be it—the moment everything changes forever.

“Bullet, what’s gonna happen?” mi ask, trying fi keep di fear outta mi voice. “What if dem find him?”

“Dat’s why we need fi stay sharp,” him reply, glancing back at mi. “Jahmiel knows how fi move, but we have to be ready.”

As di seconds tick by, mi can’t help but think about di last time mi saw Jahmiel. His warm smile, his soft touch, and di way he always made mi feel safe. It’s like a light inna di darkness, an it keeps mi grounded. But now, with him in danger, I feel lost.

---

Just then, di sound of tires screeching outside catches our attention. Bullet’s eyes widen as he rushes to di door, and mi follow close behind. We peer out di window, an mi see a black SUV pull up fast, tires crunching on di gravel.

“Dat’s him,” Bullet mutters, his voice tense. “Get ready.”

Mi hold mi breath as di door opens, an out steps Jahmiel, looking fierce and focused. He’s dressed in black, his expression serious as he scans di area. Di moment mi see him, relief floods mi body, but it’s quickly replaced by fear as mi notice di way he moves, like a lion ready to pounce.

“Yuh alright?” Jahmiel calls out as he steps inside. His eyes find mi, an for a moment, it feels like di world stops.

“Mi’m good,” mi respond, trying fi sound calm, but mi can’t hide di tremor in mi voice.

He strides over, wrapping his arms around mi. Di embrace is strong and warm, and mi feel safe again. But di moment is short-lived as Bullet steps in.

“Jahmiel, we need to move fast,” Bullet urges. “Dem won’t be far behind.”

“Yuh sure?” Jahmiel’s eyes narrow as he looks at Bullet. “Mi thought mi could shake dem.”

“Not from what mi hear,” Bullet replies, his voice urgent. “We gotta get yuh outta here.”

---

Jahmiel releases mi, his expression hardening as he steps back, ready to face whatever is coming. “Kimi, yuh need to stay close. Don’t go wandering.”

“Where are we going?” mi ask, feeling a mix of fear and excitement.

“Somewhere safe for now. Just trust mi,” he says, his voice steady.

Bullet leads di way, an Jahmiel follows closely behind mi. As we make our way through di narrow halls of di house, mi can’t shake di feeling dat danger is right behind us.

We reach di back door, an Jahmiel pushes it open, scanning di area before stepping outside. Di night air is cool, but mi feel heat rising in mi chest. We move quickly, di sound of our footsteps echoing inna di stillness of di night.

Suddenly, a loud noise breaks di silence—gunshots ring out in di distance. Mi freeze, di blood draining from mi face.

“Run!” Jahmiel shouts, grabbing mi hand.

We sprint towards a nearby alley, di sound of chaos filling di air. Mi heart pounds in mi chest as mi feel Jahmiel pulling me along, determination etched on his face.

“Bullet!” Jahmiel yells, looking back. “Yuh check di front, keep an eye out!”

“Got it!” Bullet responds, running ahead.

---

In di darkness of di alley, mi can barely see anything, but mi trust Jahmiel to lead me. His grip is strong, keeping me anchored as we navigate through di maze of buildings. Each sound feels amplified, an mi can hear mi heart racing louder than di chaos behind us.

“Jahmiel,” mi whisper, struggling to keep up. “What’s happening?”

“Just stay focused,” he says, eyes darting around. “We need to get to di car.”

We finally reach a dimly lit street where Bullet is waiting, a sleek black car idling quietly. Jahmiel pushes me inside before jumping in himself, slamming di door shut.

“Go!” Jahmiel shouts at Bullet, who takes off down di road.

---

As di city blurs by outside di window, mi feel di adrenaline rushing through me. Every twist and turn feels like a heartbeat, an di realization of how close we are to danger is overwhelming. Mi turn to Jahmiel, searching his face for answers.

“Yuh okay?” mi ask, trying fi mask mi fear.

“Yeah,” he replies, but di tension in his voice says otherwise. “Dis is just a setback. We’ll regroup.”

“Do yuh know who it is?” mi question, wanting to understand di danger lurking behind di scenes.

“Rival gang,” he mutters, clenching his fists. “Dey want power, an dey think takin’ me out will give dem dat.”

“Mi don’t want yuh to get hurt,” mi say, feeling tears prick at mi eyes. “Dis is too much, Jahmiel!”

“Yuh need to be strong for mi,” he says, his voice firm but kind. “Dis life? It’s not easy, but mi need yuh to trust me.”

---

As we drive deeper into di night, mi try to process everything. Dis isn’t just about love anymore; it’s about survival. Jahmiel’s world is dangerous, and every moment feels like a ticking clock.

Finally, Bullet pulls into a secluded area, parking di car in front of a small, unassuming house. “Dis is di spot,” he says, turning around to face us. “We can lay low for now.”

“Yuh sure it’s safe?” Jahmiel asks, eyes scanning di area.

“Yeah, we good here,” Bullet assures him.

Jahmiel turns to mi, his expression softening. “Kimi, yuh gonna be alright. Just stick by mi side.”

“Always,” mi reply, feeling a sense of determination wash over me.

---

As we step out of di car, mi realize dat di night is far from over. Danger may be lurking in di shadows, but so is love, an as long as Jahmiel is beside me, mi know mi can face whatever comes next.
