Year: 1997.
Season: Summer.I stepped outside the hot summer air, getting ready to go walk to school and start the day. I was wearing what I usually wouldn't wear, a babydoll top with a jean skirt and some converse shoes. My two siblings followed me along the street as I walked to school, I'm the middle child while I have two brothers. Chester the eldest being 17 with shaggy blonde hair and dark brown eyes, and Zane being 14 with black straight hair and blue eyes, with tiny freckles speckled across is nose and cheeks. "My teacher is assigning us work that is meant for college! I'm sick of it!" Zane would complain, while dragging his feet to keep up with me and Chester. "Shut up, you're not fucking worth anything anyway." Chester would reply, Chester always had the mean comments. It was like he was filled up with the meanest replies and never filled up with the good ones. I continue to walk looking at the lawns of the house that we passed by, the grass wet from the sprinklers and glistening in the sunlight. We had just started school and I was looking forward to it, I had never wanted to be home because the four adults in the house never payed attention to me or my siblings.
Finally, we make it to school. I walk inside the school buildings along with my siblings. Of course, every time a girl looked at Chester they would pass out. I don't see the charm in him, I mean he's my brother..he's always been ugly to me. While Zane, just being the goofball and rushing over to his friends. Yes we've been in foster care, and then we got adopted by a family...that doesn't seem to know how to deal with kids. So we've kept to ourselves and never really tried to express our emotions with those 'parents' of ours. I walk over to my friend, and my only friend. Her name was Mary and she was the bestest friend you could ever have. She was super short though, only being 5'0 ft and she's only 16, while I had been 5'5. She had ginger hair, with freckles. "Cleo! There you are I've been waiting here for hours!" Mary would start off the conversation by greeting me. "Hey, class is about to start so I can't talk that much. I'll meet you at break, yeah?" I tell her so she knows I'm heading to class and not skipping it. "Alright, have fun! And try not to get yourself in trouble." She would reply before walking away to her class while I headed to mine. Once I had gotten to my class, I sat down at the desk I was assigned. Behind me were two boys and two girls who seemed like couples, and to the left of me were the girls who tried too hard to be cool.
I start taking notes as the teacher starts teaching the lesson. I had good grades, but it didn't seem like my parents were too proud. After about an hour or so class finishes, and then for the rest of the school day I did my work and finished it early. As I headed home, with my two siblings dragging their feet I began to wonder if I would ever become rich. I don't know why but I got a sudden feeling that I would never be rich, I would be poor a miserable in this tragic foster home with parents that didn't know how to parent. When I finally stepped foot on the porch I unlocked the door with the keys my supposed 'parents' had given me. Chester and Zane would push past me and would rush into the house, their feet knocking on the wood floor. Then they would run upstairs and go to their rooms, and hide out up there for the rest of the night.
