Confessions in the Library---

Chuuya felt the heat rise in his cheeks at Dazai’s words. The library, usually a place of quiet study, suddenly felt charged with electricity. “Special? You make it sound like I’m some sort of prize.”

Dazai chuckled, leaning back in his chair, arms crossed behind his head. “Not a prize, but definitely someone I enjoy being around. You bring a spark to my life, Chuuya.”

Chuuya’s heart raced. “I—”

Before he could gather his thoughts, the librarian shot them a warning glance. They fell silent, and Chuuya fidgeted with his notes, the weight of Dazai’s gaze on him. He desperately wanted to respond, to share what was swirling in his heart, but the words eluded him.

“Look,” Dazai said after a moment, his tone shifting to a more serious one. “I don’t want to put you on the spot. I just… I want you to know how much your friendship means to me.”

“Yeah, it means a lot to me too,” Chuuya replied, his voice barely above a whisper.

Dazai smiled, but there was a hint of disappointment in his eyes. “Maybe we should take a break from studying. It’s clear we’re not getting much done anyway.”

“Good idea,” Chuuya agreed, relief washing over him. They stood, stretching their legs as they exited the library, the air outside crisp and refreshing.

As they walked through the halls, Chuuya felt the familiar pull of uncertainty. He wanted to ask Dazai what he meant about being special, to delve deeper into the connection they shared. But doubt crept in, whispering fears of rejection and confusion.

“Hey, you okay?” Dazai asked, glancing sideways at him.

“Yeah, just… thinking,” Chuuya replied, forcing a smile.

“About what?” Dazai prodded, genuine curiosity in his eyes.

Chuuya hesitated. “Just school stuff. You know how it is.”

Dazai nodded, but Chuuya could sense the disappointment lingering in the air. They walked in silence, the atmosphere thick with unspoken words.

The following days passed in a blur of classes and interactions. Chuuya found himself constantly distracted, replaying Dazai’s earlier words in his mind. Each time their eyes met, his heart raced, but he still couldn’t muster the courage to confront his feelings.

One afternoon, as they were leaving school, Dazai suggested heading to a nearby café. “I’ve been craving their pastries. Let’s treat ourselves!”

“Sure, why not?” Chuuya agreed, eager to escape the weight of his thoughts.

They settled into a cozy corner of the café, sharing pastries and sipping hot chocolate. The warm ambiance wrapped around them, a stark contrast to the turmoil brewing within Chuuya.

“You know,” Dazai said, breaking the comfortable silence, “I’ve been thinking a lot lately. About us.”

Chuuya’s heart skipped a beat. “Us?”

“Yeah. I mean, I’ve really enjoyed the time we’ve spent together,” Dazai said, leaning forward, his gaze intense. “And I can’t shake the feeling that there’s something more.”

Chuuya’s breath caught in his throat. “More? Like what?”

“Like… I don’t know. Something deeper. I feel like we have a connection that goes beyond friendship,” Dazai confessed, his cheeks flushing slightly.
