Wang Jumin, a Chinese worker, was sent to work on the Pacific island of Mallicolo to build a road near the airport. He had heard of the wild, rugged, mysterious island, but never thought it would be so beautiful.

One day, as he was working hard on the site, he saw Rachel, the daughter of the local tribal leader. She was beautiful and elegant, with hair as black as lacquer and arms like jade. Wang Jumin was immediately attracted to her. After a few days of hesitation, he wrote her a short letters in English, telling her he wanted to know her. When he met her one morning, he gave her the letter without a word.

She was unlikely to accept his invitation as writing a letter wasn't the usual way to contact a woman in Mallicolo. However, she agreed to meet him. Was she fascinated by his audacity or by the charms of the unknown? To be honest, she had a quite boring life on her island, and had a chance to escape the blues. Wang Jumin could not believe he was the only reason for her unexpected decision. But their story actually started like this.

Rachel was curious about Wang Jumin and his work on the island. Both of them could speak English, so they were able to communicate. They talked for half a day about their lives, their dreams and their expectations for the future. Wang Jumin was struck by the fact that he had found his dreams and hopes too few. In fact, a day's work for Chinese workers seemed to be a machine for eliminating innocence and hope. He also found that Rachel loved nature and her people's traditions, but she was also worried about how the construction route would affect their way of life.

Although Wang Jumin and Rachel were very different, they quickly moved closer. They shared deep connections and mutual understanding, which transcended language and culture. However, they knew their love was impossible. Once his work was complete, Wang Jumin would have to return to China, and Rachel would have to remain on the island and marry a man chosen by her father. But they couldn't ignore the feelings that made them close to each other. They decided to spend the most of their time together because they knew that their love would never be accepted by their own world.

Rachel's father was a righteous, impartial man, respected and loved by all members of the tribe. He had been the village leader for many years, and he had been given his place because of his wisdom and courage. He was a tall, strong man with a grey beard and sharp eyes, always wearing traditional hand-woven clothes. Rachel's father was a charismatic leader who inspired wisdom and respect, but he also showed the residents warmth and attention. He listened carefully to everyone's views and concerns and took time to think before making a decision. However, when Rachel's father was very angry, he didn't hesitate to reprimand those who violated the rules or lacked respect for tribal traditions. Rachel loved her father and respected his authority. She knew that he served the tribe and would do everything he could to protect and support her daughter. Still, she knew that her love for Wang Jumin would remain impossible.

Wang Jumin also knew that her father would never accept their relationship. He was a foreigner, an ordinary Chinese worker who came to build a road on the island. He had nothing to offer Rachel, nothing to compensate her for the sacrifices she would make to be with him. Wang Jumin was too afraid to express his feelings and love to Rachel. But the longer he spent time with Rachel, the more he realized he could not live without her.

He should have the courage to show her his love, fight for their happiness, and, if necessary, face the wrath of the tribal leader.
