Maria looked at her watch and made a surprised expression. "Oh, the break is already over! We better hurry, or we'll be late for class. By the way, which section are you in?"
'Here we go again!' I thought.
Yeah, I didn't know this as well. Like, c'mon, how do you expect someone to remember in which class they were when they can't even remember their name! Then again, Maria didn't know that I had lost my memories.
I searched for a reply. Just as I was lost in thought, Maria interrupted, "By the way, you haven't even told me your name yet."
'Wow! I haven't even thought for a possible answer for the first question and now I'm greeted with another question whose answer I once again don't have!
Maria's inquisitive eyes were fixed at me, waiting for an answer. I felt a sudden pressure to answer her as soon as I can. I ended up blurting out, even though I wasn't prepared with an excuse. "Well, my name is Ellen, and about my class and section...I don't exactly remember. I know it might sound confusing, but so is the case."
I wasn't sure why I gave her the name from my flashbacks, not even knowing if it was mine. Well, it wasn't really the answer I wanted to give her but anyways, what's done is done. At least, I was relieved of the sudden pressure.
I looked at Maria, who was evidently stunned. She sighed as she said " I had expected that you must have had a pretty bad experience in the store room judging by your first appearance but to think you wouldn't even remember your class, I can't imagine what sort of horrible experience you had in there. I guess you don't even remember that right?"
I nodded.
I had been wary of Maria, unsure whom to trust. Given my situation, I must have had some serious enemies to end up bleeding in the storeroom. But, I had been nothing but a burden to her all this time. I didn't recall knowing anyone else over here. Maybe that's why I over reacted when I found Maria missing on entering the Medical Room.
Maria seemed to have noticed my uneasiness. "You know, you don't need to feel sad over someone else's doings. It's not your fault that you can't remember anything, it's those people who bullied you who should feel sad and guilty."
Touched, I looked at Maria who was smiling at me with a comforting gaze. 'How could such a pure soul even think of causing harm to others? I don't think she was involved in any of it, but it's always better to be cautious'
"Since you don't have any idea about your class and stuff, I guess we should head to Madam Lavoisier's office, she maintains all records of the students. We could ask her for your details since you can't remember them."
I nodded.
We walked into the hallway. It was awfully quiet. All the students were busy attending their classes, Maria and I were the only ones walking in there. I kind of felt bad for dragging Maria in this and having her miss her class.
A diversion came, and we walked toward the left side.
Suddenly, I stopped and said "Wait, isn't Madam Lavoisier's office to the right? We're going left." A look of realization embraced her face as Maria's eyes slightly widened and her mouth slightly opened "Oh! You're right! I'm sorry, I don't often visit her so I got confused and led you in the wrong direction."
We turned around and headed in the correct direction.
"By the way, it's good that you at least remember the way to different classes and teachers' offices."
Come to think of it, I couldn't remember even the tiniest detail about this place after waking up, but I instantly knew it that we were heading in the wrong direction? Even when Maria was missing and I was trying to get some information about her (refer to chapter 7), I went to different classes, and knew exactly where to look for them.
'Oh, that reminds me, I still haven't asked her why no one seemed to know her when I asked them.'
I tried asking her, "Ummn, you know-" but then got interrupted. "Oh look, there is Madam Lavoisier! She seems to be talking to be someone. Guess we'll have to wait for a little while." said Maria.
I followed the direction where her eyes were looking and found two teachers standing and talking to each other outside an office.
The first teacher stood with her arms crossed, her wavy chestnut hair catching the afternoon sunlight. She wore a navy blue dress that accentuated her warm, inviting demeanor. Her glasses slid down her nose as she leaned in, animatedly discussing a recent school event.
Beside her, stood the second teacher who was tall and elegant and had a cascade of black curls that framed her face. Dressed in a vibrant green blouse and dark slacks, she gestured expressively, her dark eyes sparkling with enthusiasm.
For some reason, the first teacher felt familiar.
"Okay then, I will inform the Principal about this." said the second teacher and left.
"Madam Lavoisier is finally free!" exclaimed Maria as she started walking towards the first teacher. I followed her.
'It seems that the first teacher was the Madam Lavoisier Maria talked about.'
Madam Lavoisier was about to go inside her office when Maria called out to her "Madam Lavoisier! Please wait!"
She stopped and looked back at Maria.
Her gaze then fell on me, and with a look of sudden shock, she exclaimed
"ELLEN?!"
Author's note
Finally it's over! I completed this chapter! You must have noticed that this chapter was longer than the previous chapter, well, that's because the previous chapters had some main events which we'll refer to again and again. From now on, the plot would advance faster than before and the chapters will be longer.
Left - Madam Lavoisier Right- Mrs. Thomas
