Eliana stood in front of her easel, staring blankly at the half-finished canvas before her. Colors that once seemed vibrant and full of life now looked dull and drained. The conversation with Lucas still lingered in her mind, but it wasn't the only thing troubling her. Something was shifting beneath the surface, something she couldn't quite put her finger on.

Her phone buzzed on the worktable behind her, pulling her out of her trance. She grabbed it, expecting a message from Lucas, but froze when she saw the name on the screen.

Sarah.

The message was short and simple.

Sarah: We need to talk. Café, 3 PM. Don't be late.

Eliana's blood ran cold. Sarah? Why was she reaching out now? It had only been a week since their encounter, and Eliana thought she had put that unsettling meeting behind her. But now, Sarah was back, and whatever she wanted, it couldn't be good.

She debated ignoring the message, but her curiosity-and the need for answers-got the better of her. She needed to understand what kind of hold Sarah still had over Lucas and why she seemed so determined to make her presence known.

When 3 PM rolled around, Eliana found herself standing outside the café, her nerves on edge. The usual comfort she found in the familiar place was gone, replaced by a sense of impending doom. Taking a deep breath, she stepped inside, scanning the room for Sarah.

Sarah was already seated by the window, a calm yet unsettling expression on her face as she stirred her coffee. Her dark hair was pulled back into a sleek ponytail, and her posture radiated an air of control that sent a shiver down Eliana's spine.

"Eliana," Sarah greeted, her voice smooth and devoid of warmth. "Glad you could make it."

Eliana slid into the seat across from her, keeping her expression neutral. "You said we needed to talk."

Sarah took a sip of her coffee, her eyes never leaving Eliana's face. "I thought it was time we cleared the air. After all, we both have something in common now, don't we?"

Eliana's heart pounded in her chest. "What do you want, Sarah?"

A slow smile spread across Sarah's face, one that didn't reach her eyes. "I want to make sure you know exactly what you're getting into with Lucas."

"I'm not interested in playing games," Eliana replied, her voice steady despite the growing unease in her chest. "If you have something to say, say it."

Sarah leaned forward, her voice dropping to a whisper. "You think you know him, don't you? But you don't. Lucas has secrets, things he hasn't told you-things he hasn't even told himself."

Eliana's pulse quickened, but she kept her expression calm. "And you're here to enlighten me?"

"Let's just say I've seen a side of Lucas you haven't. A side that he tries to bury but never really goes away." Sarah's eyes glittered with something dangerous. "You think the man you've seen is who he really is, but there's more. Much more."

Eliana clenched her jaw, refusing to rise to the bait. "Why are you telling me this?"

"Because I know how this ends," Sarah said, her voice cold and certain. "And I'm giving you a chance to walk away before it's too late."

Before Eliana could respond, the bell above the café door chimed, and both women turned to see a figure entering. It wasn't Lucas. It was a man Eliana didn't recognize-tall, with sharp features and an air of quiet intensity. He locked eyes with Sarah, a flicker of something unspoken passing between them, before making his way to their table.

"Am I interrupting?" the man asked, his voice smooth as silk.

Sarah's smile widened. "Not at all. In fact, you're right on time."

Eliana's heart raced. Who was this guy? And why did it feel like the ground beneath her was about to give way?

The man pulled out a chair and sat down, his gaze settling on Eliana with unsettling intensity. "You must be Eliana. I've heard a lot about you."

Eliana narrowed her eyes, her defenses rising. "Who are you?"

He extended a hand, the gesture too formal to be genuine. "Theo. I'm an old friend of Sarah's-and, by extension, Lucas."

The mention of Lucas sent a ripple of unease through her. Why had he never mentioned this guy? And what kind of "friend" was he?

Theo continued, his tone casual but layered with something darker. "Lucas and I go way back. But I'm afraid he's not always been...forthright about his past."

Eliana felt her stomach twist. "What are you talking about?"

Theo leaned in slightly, his voice dropping. "Lucas and I were business partners once. And let's just say things didn't end on the best of terms. You see, Lucas has a way of distancing himself from anything that threatens his image. He's good at hiding his mistakes, even from the people closest to him."

Eliana's heart pounded in her chest. She didn't know what to believe-was this some kind of manipulation from Sarah, or was there truth to Theo's words?

Sarah watched her with a cold satisfaction, as if she could sense the doubt creeping into Eliana's mind. "He's not the man you think he is, Eliana. You should be careful."

Eliana took a deep breath, forcing herself to stay calm. "What do you want from me?"

Theo smiled, but there was no warmth in it. "Nothing, really. Just thought you should know what you're getting into. Lucas may seem like he's moved on from his past, but the past has a funny way of catching up to people. Especially when they least expect it."

Eliana stood up, her heart racing. She had heard enough. "I don't know what kind of game you two are playing, but I'm not interested."

She turned to leave, but Theo's voice stopped her.

"You can't outrun the truth forever, Eliana. Sooner or later, you'll see it for yourself."

Without looking back, Eliana walked out of the café, her mind swirling with doubt and confusion. She didn't know who to trust, or what to believe. But one thing was clear: Lucas's past was far more complicated than he had let on-and now, she was caught in the middle of something much bigger than she had realized.
