The terminal buzzed with the sounds of rolling luggage, distant announcements, and the murmurs of families reuniting and lovers saying their goodbyes. Salar sat slumped in a plastic airport chair, his bag at his feet, the gate sign flickering above him. It felt like a cruel joke, this impending departure. Each tick of the clock echoed the turmoil in his heart, a relentless reminder of the woman he was leaving behind. He has fought against his heart, his own will to leave everything and go away. only salar knew how much he was controlling himself.
As he stared at the floor, his mind drifted back to Sitara—the way she would crinkle her nose when she laughed, her fingers tracing the rim of her coffee cup as she had her coffee . He could almost hear her voice, a soft melody that had once brought him so much joy. But now, it was tainted with doubt, her accusations still echoing in his ears: “You don't love me salar, sab kuch natak hai tumhara”
He had fought against her suspicions, pouring his heart out time and again, trying to prove his love was genuine. But every word felt like it slipped through his fingers, leaving him empty. Now, as he faced the reality of leaving, he couldn’t shake the weight of defeat. Perhaps Maybe he had never been enough. All the people he loved left him alone, first nani and then sitara.
Suddenly, amidst the throngs of travelers, he caught a glimpse of a familiar face. His heart jolted as he raised his gaze, half hoping he had conjured her image from sheer will. There she was—Sitara—standing a few gates down, her hair catching the fluorescent light, her expression unreadable. She looked lost, yet determined, scanning the crowd with eyes wide and searching.
Salar’s heart raced. Why did she come here ? Or was this merely a figment of his imagination, a cruel trick played by his longing? He felt a rush of emotions—hope, despair, anger, and a flicker of joy. He hadn’t seen her in days, hadn’t even spoken since their last argument, and now, here she was, just a heartbeat away.
He stood up, unsure of what to do. The bustling crowd felt like an obstacle, each person a barrier between them. He took a step forward, then hesitated, his feet rooted to the ground. Memories surged—lazy Sunday mornings, whispered secrets, the warmth of her body next to his. But they were overshadowed by the pain of her words.“Salar?” Her voice sliced through the noise, and he turned, caught in her gaze. Her eyes were glistening, a mix of hope and fear, as if she, too, couldn’t comprehend the distance that had formed between them.
"Sitara,” he managed, his voice barely above a whisper. His heart pounded in his chest, a wild rhythm of longing and uncertainty. She took a step closer, and suddenly, the airport, with all its coldness, seemed to melt away.
“What are you doing here?” he asked, the question laced with desperation.
“Tum sach mein mujhe chodo ke ja rahi woh,” sitara says, biting her lip. “Is it so easy for you ”
" Easy" Salara scoffs, he comes forward and holds her arms. His eyes were growing red with fury but there was an underlying pain in his gaze. The pain was so terrible, sitara could not look away from it salar's gaze held her enthralled.
" Do you know what was not easy, your hatred and your accusations which I kept bearing because I had hoped that one day you will see my love" he says shaking her, " I was wrong sitara, mein haara gaya, tumhara nafrat aur zid jeet gayi"
" Meri nafrat aur zid " sitara says angrily. . She pushed herself out of his arms and glared at him before poking his chest with her finger, " you were the one who admitted that you married me to satisfy your ego and break me. Why are you so shocked hearing it. That day I heard you when you said to nani why you married me. All the love you showed towards him was fake... You are so low..."
" Shut up sitara" Salar cut into her speech but sitara was feeling such relief at finally yelling what she had held in for so long. "Wah! Why can't you stand to hear the truth Salar? You are much more comfortable with telling me lies about your undying love!" she retorted poking him again, for once she just wanted to rebel against everything; she wanted to rebel against this stubborn love she had for him. "I said shut up Sitara! Yes I said all that to nani because I did not want her to turn against you. You were misbehaving and acting like a spoiled brat because of some stupid misconception fed by salman. Nani was also not liking it so I lied to her because I did not want anyone thinking wrong about you"
Sitara froze at his words and looked at his face searching for lies but she could find only the truth.
Fresh tears sprang up in Sitara's eyes as the truth of his words finally sunk in. "Tum sach mein mujhe mohabbat karte the" She choked out barely able to speak. She really had lost him and his love with all the things she had done. He will never forgive her. The thing which she yearned whole life was that she had lost it. The unconditional love which she could not recognise.
" Aa pagal abhi bhi karta hoon issliye I'm standing here hearing your stupid accusations" salar replies smiling a bit. How did he even think he could leave her and go. Now when she is standing in front of him, all he wanted was to take her and go. Salar shikandar did not have the strength to leave his wife and go and it was all her fault.
Sitara felt her heart getting restored as relief coursed through her. Salar pulled her tightly against him she held him back just as tightly. They did not know which emotion was stronger, relief, pain, or happiness but they let their emotions flow.
" I love you too salar, bahut zyada itna ki I can't live without you issliye I came here because I can't let you leave me" Sitara confesses. Sitara watches as salar's face changes from relief to happiness.
" Sach mein mohabbat hai na mujhe se" salar asks her.He was clearly overwhelmed with her confession. Sitara looked directly into his eyes she nodded. "Meri jaan itna intezar kyun kiya yeh bol ne mein, if I left without hearing this zindagi baar dukh mein rehta mein" Sitara gasped as she was scooped up and swung around the next moment. He broke into laughter, happiness reverberating within him at her confession." Madam, sir ghar jaake romance karo" some passengers said loudly making salar and sitara conscious of the surroundings. They pulled out of their hug.Salar reached for her hand, squeezing it tightly. “Ghar chale”
Sitara nodded, a smile breaking through her face. “Yes. Together.”
