C O N V E R S I O N
"Damn...This day is finally over." Diana sighed out, carelessly throwing her books into her locker. "And to think we have another whole year left..."
"Oh stop being such a Debbie downer!" I exclaimed, hoping to turn the year into something greater. "How about we challenge ourselves this year? Do something different and fun?"
"Like what?" She asked crossing her arms, leaning back on the lockers as she waited for me to finish packing my stuff.
"Like...I don't know! Be a bit daring and crank up the thrill a little!" I suggested in and attempt to spark her flame, knowing if there was anything that drew her in it was the thrill and excitement of an adventurous life. Maybe, if I managed to poke her in the right spot for once, I could help turn this year into something unforgettable.
"Mhm..."She hummed beside me, and I didn't have to look at her to know the devious smile on her lips. "I want to believe you, but you see Sunny....Something tells me you won't live up to those words. Not entirely at least."
"Oh yeah? And why would that be?" I asked amused, already knowing why. At that point I had lost counts of all the things she had invested me out to do, but which I had turned down. Whether it be out of fear, nerves or hesitation.
"Oh just a gut feeling, that's all..." She said, the smile still lingering on her lip.
"Hi girls!" The soft, feminine voice of Julia Henderson suddenly called out behind us, and turning on our heels both me and Diana came eye to eye with her green frames. Dressed in a neatly pressed skirt and blouse, she looked as put together and preppy as always.
"Oh, hey Julia!" Her mellow nature had always made me feel less intimidated, as she otherwise upheld a rather big image as the school's exemplary student. She and our student representative Mark Larssen, that was. They would both likely end up sharing the title as the valedictorian, and being as kind and generous as they were they probably couldn't be happier about it.
"Just letting you know you're invited to the kick-off held on Friday!" Hands clasped behind her back, she excitedly elevated herself on her toes as she delivered the invitation. An excitement I also felt, but which soon mingled with my overwhelming insecurities.
"Who's hosting?" Diana inquired, visibly intrigued by the presumably grand event. "No offence Julia, but I can't imagine it being you."
"Oh!— Haha you're spot on!" She laughed, covering her smile with her hand. "Wilson's hosting it, per usual. I'm only helping out with planning and such since it's such a large party. The entire senior year will be invited!"
Yeah, it was very grand. At least by my standards—me, who thought inviting ten people over for dinner was a lot. With the entire senior year being invited we would be at least hundred people.
"There'll be more posted soon as we'll create an event announcement. But I just wanted to let you guys know in person. It'd be really fun if you could attend!"
"You can count us in!" Diana declared for both of us, and Julia looked more than happy to hear it.
"Coo—"
"Eugh!" The loud sound of an obnoxious gag cut Julia off, and turning our heads to our right we quickly found the source.
Unlike a certain someone I was more than happy to run into during the day, who filled my heart with light every time I saw him, this other someone I could say the very opposite about.
