The Multipurpose Beacon is a lightweight, portable signal device designed for marking points of interest across remote environments. Engineered for reliable operation in unpredictable terrain and atmospheric conditions, the beacon serves as an essential tool for surveying teams, resource collection missions, and long-range exploration operations.

Compact and easy to deploy, it transmits a continuous, low-frequency signal, visible from several kilometers. Operators can assign custom designations for easy navigation and retrieval.

How It Works

Activation: Upon deployment, the beacon stabilizes upright on most surfaces and activates an encoded transmitter.

Signal Transmission: It sends out a continuous pulse detectable via standard Alterra-issued scanning equipment and exosuits, even at significant distances.

Identification: Users can modify the beacon's designation remotely through linked devices, allowing flexible labeling.

Operation Range:

Up to 2 km underwater and 4 km in air, depending on environmental interference (e.g., mineral deposits, magnetic anomalies).Signal strength can degrade in extreme weather conditions or dense mineral formations.

Advantages & Disadvantages

Advantages:

Compact & Lightweight: Easily carried by individuals or stored in small vehicle compartments.

Versatile Deployment: Functions on both land and underwater without additional components.

Battery-Free Operation: Uses a passive transmission system, eliminating power concerns.

Durability: Resistant to corrosion, pressure, and extreme temperatures, ensuring long-term use in most environments.

Disadvantages:

Line-of-Sight Limits: Signal interference in complex cave networks or mineral-rich zones.

Static Deployment: Beacons are stationary; they cannot adjust or follow moving objects.

Limited Memory: Can only store one custom designation at a time, with no logging capacity.

Recommended Usage Areas

Aquatic Exploration: Ideal for marking notable landmarks, resources, or navigation points.

Resource-Gathering Operations: Use to mark key mineral sites or high-interest deposits.

Emergency Situations: Establish distress signals for stranded personnel or rescue markers.

Caution: Beacons are not suitable for use: Inside deep cave networks where signals cannot penetrate. Near active volcanic vents, where electromagnetic interference is frequent. In environments with hostile fauna, as the signal may inadvertently attract attention.

Materials Required for Crafting

Ion synthetic computer fabric: For internal signal transmission components.

Titanium: Frame and casing for impact resistance and light weight.

Synthetic silicone rubber: Internal stabilization for shock absorption during deployment.

Safety Precautions

Placement Warning: Avoid placing beacons on unstable surfaces or near moving objects to prevent dislocation.

Signal Interference: Regularly monitor signal integrity in magnetic or high-pressure environments.

Avoid Tampering: Internal components are sealed to prevent accidental damage or malfunction. Unauthorized alterations may void warranties.
